May 4, 2012 Reward offered in death of Lightning Medicine Cloud
By BRAD KELLAR CNHI
GREENVILLE A grieving Arby Little Soldier announced Friday a $5,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Lightning Medicine Cloud, a white buffalo sacred to Native Americans, and his mother.
"The people have taken the heart of a spiritual situation here," Little Soldier said.
During a press conference at the Lakota Ranch near Greenville, investigators looking into the deaths declined to release any details as to how the buffaloes died, other than to confirm that a criminal probe was underway, involving the Hunt County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers and the federal Department of Indian Affairs.
Sheriff Randy Meeks did not comment on reports aired by a Dallas television station concerning the case.
"We are still early into the investigation and I'm not at liberty to say," Meeks said, adding a veterinarian was called to the ranch upon the discovery of the bodies. "We have not received that report yet."
Next week's Native American Powwow, which had been scheduled at the ranch to celebrate Lightning Medicine Cloud's first birthday, will still be presented.
"We are now going to celebrate his memorial," Little Soldier said.
Sad. There are some sick people out there.
I would like to see the results of the necropsies before jumping to the conclusion that the deaths were caused by criminal activity.
I don’t know about Texas and ranchers problems with poisonaous weeds, but there are plants here in the Pacific Northwest that can sicken and kill livestock. Those plants are a big problem for cattalemen, or anyone owning grazing livestock.
When I looked above the canyon wall,
some strong eyes did I see.
I think its somebody comin’ around
to save my ass,baby.
I think...I think he’s comin’ around
to save you and me.
Boys......
I said, above the canyon wall...
strong eyes did glow.
It was the leader of the land, baby.
OH MY GOD,
The GREAT WHITE BUFFALO.....
LOOK OUT!!!! LOOK OUT!!!!!!!
some devil worshipper touched the wrong sacrifice. There is going to be hell to pay
Yes, and I am shocked it happen here.
This is not an albino buffalo.
It is a true white buffalo.
The Department of Homeland Security? You’ve got to be ****ting me. It’s obvious that those bozos down at DHS don’t have enough to do. Time to bring out the ax. What if this buffalo was “sacred” to Christians. Would DHS get involved?
The local chatter is that they were shot dead.
My first thought was that it was about a religious dispute.
But I don’t understand why The Dept Of Homeland Security has been called into the investigation

“Local chatter...”
That is anecdotal, you know, gossip. A necropsy would be official.
This is totally incidental, but forty years ago my windshield was shot out while driving in the Oregon countryside. It was an accident - thankfully no one was hurt except for a ‘dead’ windshield - but it was done by a couple practising target shooting. All it takes is a ricochet.
I know people that know the ranchers.
Uh-huh.
Remember all the anger surrounding the Trayvon Martin shooting?
Keep cool.
dang, I remember reading about the birth. why the hell kill them? what a nut.
some “terrorist” killed him?
BTW the Sheriff Randy Meeks is a Republican and I voted for him.
It remains unclear to me how DHS became involved but I’ll be asking some questions.
Early voting is happening now and I planned to vote next Tues.
I may have to wait for the scheduled vote 5/29 to get some answers
It’s senseless. and the thing wasn’t eve a year old.
The Buffalo was drawing people from around the world here.
Harrison Ford came to see it
It's a religious and cultural thing. I'd bet on humans causing the death.

Sheriff Meeks is being cautious in making statements until the report is in.
But I am just injecting what I have been told by close sources.
