A New Jersey woman was arrested after police said she brought her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing the girl to suffer burns.
But 44-year-old Patricia Krentcil, who was charged with second-degree child endangerment, said her daughter was never exposed to the tanning booth's UV rays and instead got slightly sunburned while playing outside on a warm day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The girl's father told NBC 4 New York his daughter told classmates at school that she "went tanning with Mommy." He thinks a teacher overheard, inaccurately connected the girl's sunburn to the tanning salon trip and contacted police.

Nanny state intrusion into everything- idiot teacher think they must report everything to the authorities- and for the most part they are right because they will be in trouble if they don't
no one has any common sense any more, including this mother who is obviously buring herself so deeply her brain is affected
where does she work? with all this time for the tanning booth I wonder- are WE paying for her?

I’m wondering if this isn’t one of those pageant moms. Couldn’t she have just sprayed her with than tanning spray?

No mention of how badly burned the kid was. Was she slightly pink, red and peely, or blistered. I've been all three when I was a kid. The last when I was old enough to have known better.
Also, the mother's picture in the article is frightening. She should have stopped tanning about 40 years ago.

Sometimes parents mean it when they threaten to tan their child’s hide.

That’s the mother??? She’s gonna be a poster-pic for skin cancer before she’s 50.

The mother looks like something from Planet of the Apes.

Or she could take tanning pills and exceed the recommended dosage level resulting in something similar to this!

I remember my mom buying a sun lamp and sitting us all in front of it for ten minutes or so on winter evenings to ensure that we all got enough Vitamin D.
Please tell me that the statute of limitations has run out.

I tended to buy the “misunderstanding” story unitl I saw the video of the Mom. She appears to have disfigured herself through excessive tanning. She appears to have extremely, poor judgment when it comes to tanning, so, while it might have been a misunderstanding, it would not suprise me at akk if she put her 5 year old in a tanning booth.
I hope this woman gets the help she needs, because she appears to have a real problem. I am rather disgusted that tanning salons would continue to serve this woman.

While I agree that there is a “nanny state teacher” problem, I think the teacher did the right thing in reporting this. I presume the teacher has seen the mother and her horribly disfigured face, apparently the result of extreme over-tannning.
I imgaine the teacher feared that the mother was going to disfigure the little girl the way she has disfigured herself.
