FWIW, I grew up in a Southern Baptist church that considered the Roman Catholic Church to be the "whore of Babylon." I heard this MANY times in bible studies. To them, the Mormons were a cult, but not anywhere on a par with the Catholics.

Today I am a Pentecostal/"word of faith" guy. You cannot imagine what is said about my faith by "mainstream" Christians. So it doesn't strike me as unusual at all that "mormonism" considers others to be guilty of these same things.

I grew up baptist, too...sometimes SBC and sometimes Independent Baptist.

I remember dad had a book about “babylon the great” — famous book among baptists. I don’t remember it’s name now.

But, you’re right, it pointed a huge finger at the Catholic Church.
