Gang of 100 beats up white couple in Norfolk
1. The girl called 911. The first two times it was busy. Busy?! Needs to be fixed.
2. The dude got out of his car after someone in a crowd of over 100 black people threw a rock at it. What was he thinking? Seriously.
3. The cops wanted them out of the area quickly because there was gunfire nearby. Dang! White people, please stay the hell out of there.
4. The police wrote it up as a “simple assault”. That's why it didn't get reported, even though the Pilot knew every little fact. They didn't want to appear biased in favor of their employees, even though... They knew every little fact.
5. It's not, of course, a hate crime, nor racially motivated. At least, no one knows. They can't determine that. Who knows? What? huh?
Roll Tide! nice hat....
Ms. Washington,
Just a few points.
First, it took courage for you to write the column. The best, most pertinent question is why such a column should require courage. The answer to that question is the greater underlying story.
Second, black on white racial attacks are common, and almost universally ignored by the media (see FBI crime data). You know as well as I, that were the races reversed, this crime would have been the morning headline from coast to coast. Racially motivated, black on white crime is simply a dog bites man story, that is additionally considered inflammatory to cover. That the female reporter was not stripped and raped is a relief.
Third, it is not racist to acknowledge that a dependent culture is by nature violent?
Finally, there is no clearer case for being armed. The police cannot protect you. If you desire to drive to and from work without being beaten or raped, I suggest that you carry a firearm. Anything else is naïve wishful thinking.
If 911 was busy during “normal” times,
just think how unavailable “official” help will be when
they decide to stop pussyfootin’ around in the “war on whitey”.
“The dude got out of his car after someone in a crowd of over 100 black people threw a rock at it. What was he thinking? Seriously.”
Being a liberal, this guy would automatically brand someone like John Derbyshire a racist.
But I believe he and his girlfriend would have done better to heed a few items from Mr. Derbyshire’s “The Talk”:
“(10a) Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally.
(10b) Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods.
(10i) If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving.”
(Aside: what would Pat Frank think of all this?)
They will be gathering around and protecting the elected officials so that someone can process the paper work for funds and caskets.
He wouldn't be surprised at how things go in "Pistolville".
I really like your use of “Zimmerman” as a verb! Kudos.
I’m really pushing to get it into the Oxford English Dictionary!
That's an Atlanta Braves cap. A subtle difference...but different.
Notice the left side of the "A" and where the line starts to cross the vertical.
The Atlanta "A" starts lower and ends in a swoop upward.
The Alabama "A" starts higher and ends with a downward slant.
Well, that explains it. It’s the “MLK Drive” syndrome. If you are on a street named after MLK, and you are white, you should run. I guess the same rule applies if you see a MLK memorial.
Like I’ve said before, conspiracy to deny hate crimes, to deny human and civil rights.
Hard prison time and enormous financial penalties for police, media, prosecutors.
Until that happens HOTHING WILL CHANGE.
When I was in the Navy, I lived in the Norfolk area from 1990-1994. What a dump. I lived in Hampton and braved the horrid traffic the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel because the still-terrible crime rates were at least lower. 90 minutes to get to work 8 miles away, equally horrible to get home. To this day, I’m baffled that anybody lives there.
People talked about Virginia Beach as if that was something special. It ain’t.
If the crazy Virginia drivers (that make Utah drivers seem only marginally bad) don’t kill you, the criminals will. But it was good to live there for 4 years. It was the perfect example of what not to do with your life.
Sorry you had to live around Norfolk (or Nawfuck) as we used to say.
We were lucky enough to be stationed at Ft. Monroe, the little Army post right outside the Hampton tunnel. It was the best 2 years in the Army for us.
I think I went to Norfolk about twice ... was not impressed and just didn’t see the attraction of going there. My son visits friends all the time at Old Dominion and I fear for his life everytime.
Va Beach looks worse everytime we go through there.
Yep. For a short time, I dated a woman who was civil service (Navy civilian). She lived in Norfolk and her car was broken into twice in the month that I dated her. The location was close to work but I was afraid that something terrible was going to happen to her walking out to her car in the morning.
As for Virginia Beach: among the Navy, it was a real status symbol to have a house there. I just don’t understand why everybody thought Virginia Beach was so wonderful. Being from Wyoming with the Rocky Mountains in my backyard, I guess Tidewater VA was just too different of a scene for me. (The joke that we always made about Tidewater was that it was accurate description: look over the side of any peer and you’ll see the green/brown water with an oil slick and dirty Tide soap suds floating on top.)
