Longtime Indiana Senator Dick Lugar is trailing state Treasurer Richard Mourdock by five points in the closely watched Republican primary, according to a new poll on behalf of Citizens United.
The survey shows Mourdock leading with 44 percent and Lugar at 39 percent, with nearly 17 percent of voters still undecided. Lugar supporters point out that Citizens United is backing Mourdock in the May 8 primary, however.
Both candidates have seen their favorable numbers plummet and the nastiness is expected to increase with less than two weeks left.

The Club for Growth has just reserved another $421,000 of TV time to batter Lugar, charging in a new spot that he is “clinging to power, throwing mud.”
Meanwhile, the pro-Lugar American Action Network is on the air with an ad attacking Mourdock’s “reckless” mismanagement of state money as treasurer.
In recent days, the Lugar campaign has also launched a series of attacks against the Tea Party challenger, claiming Mourdock failed to report several owned properties while highlighting that he once supported the Fairness Doctrine.

Nah, we’re used to the race already being decided by the time we vote. The opportunity to FINALLY get rid of Lugar will probably increase turnout.

You know I’m tired of hearing this.
I’m tired of hearing it from the left, from the MSM and from the right.
OK, not every “tea party” candidate won in 2010 but I don’t think I’m wrong when I say MOST of them did win.
Oh my goodness, if I ever hear O’Donnell, Angle and the guy from Colorado’s name linked together like Tinkers, Ever, Chance again I’m going to scream. (Full disclosure, I gave Sharon Angle more money then I’ve ever given any other pol, and I pretty much killed myself campaigning for Anna Little in NJ, so my bona fides are good.)
What about Rubio and Rand Paul and hundreds (thousands?) of state legislators whose names will never be known?
We need to TAKE over the GOP. OK, so, we didn’t get it done this time in terms of the presidential nominee.
Let’s face a fact, please dear Lord let us face it together: this was not because of some nefarious doings on the part of what I see is to be called the GOP-E (which is good, btw). It is because the conservative “not-Romney” votes were split among too many candidates, because Rick Perry fell on his face, because Pawlenty folded like a cheap camera, because no really strong conservative ran, because no conservative who ran was really strong, and the number one reason Romney’s the nominee - he got the most votes.
I’m tired of all this obscurantism on our side. We’ve won many, we’ll lose a lot, many contests will end in a middling muddle.
WE’VE GOT TO KEEP FIGHTING!
That’s what the Left does, that’s what they’ve done for hundreds of years. From the French Revolutions to Elizabeth Warren, every day they fight what they see as the good fight.
Win or lose, every morning they wake up and ask “what can I do for THE CAUSE today?”
They don’t moan and groan that Clinton was a piker and a whore monger, that Edwards was a despicable man and a whore monger and that Obama, although not a whore monger, is a disaster; they just keep slogging on.
And via that slogging they have brought Western Civilization to the brink of disaster, time and time again. And again, now.
So, forget about O’Donnell and Angle and forget about Romney too.
To paraphrase Alinsky, find a fight that you’ll enjoy and FIGHT IT!

I’ll bet we see Lugar fight like a crazed tiger against his Republican primary challenger, the same way McCain did.
Then, if he’s re-elected, it’s back into kissy-kissy-with-the-enemy mode.
He's simply not tolerable and the track record he's left in primary voting to date is simply unconscionable. This guy, when he has no competition at all, shows no more than 10% support among Republicans.
Where he has competition (with funding to counter his negative ads) he's 20% at best and that's with heavy turnout among Mormons and Pentecostals (whose affinity for Romney is totally beyond any rational standard ~ gack!). Currently he's running BEHIND the voting levels he attained in 2008.
Having signs in yards in Hamilton county doesn't get Lugar out of the Senate. You need voters on the ground in the voting stations and the Romney effect drives people away.

Your boy Romney is a minority candidate with tarnished credentials. Even as an elected Republican official he made campaign donations to Democrats. YOU CANNOT be a Republican and behave like that.

Romney was an incredibly weak front-runner. He didn't win as much as he destroyed every other alternative who did not self-destruct first. And the GOP-E sat back and let him, even though that approach makes reconciliation almost impossible.
And I did not say the GOP-E sandbagged all Tea Party candidates, just the ones who took out their favored RINOs. They could have just said nothing, that would have been the class, party-unity thing to do. But they actively sandbagged those candidates. So guess what? They can stuff their calls for party unity. They have to figure out how to undo what Romney has brought forth, they let it happen, they have to clean up the mess. Simply waving the party unity flag ain't gonna work this time, because they trampled all over it last time.
Like Ted Stevens and Arlen Specter, over thirty years in the senate is not enough. Lugar and hopefully Hatch are going to be sent packing!
Since the GOP won’t give us the conservative candidates we’ve been begging them for, we’ll just do our best to hamstring them with conservatives down ticket.
There are times in the past I haven’t voted in the primary because everything has already been decided (including local spots) . Getting rid of Lugar and a couple of local races are my sole incentives this time around.
It is the same here in Tippecanoe County. Lots of Mourdock signs and up very early; just a few Lugar signs showing up in the past week.
Mourdock voters are VERY motivated.

Do you suspect that your mixed-message across Indiana is going to get a high level of TEAParty and Conservative turnout?
You add the penumbra of gloom and doom surrounding the Romney presence on that ticket, and it's a loser.
Lugar, who I don't support, will squeeze in like liquid plummer and then you'll be out there campaigning this Fall for a Farleftwingtard AND a non-Republican!
I"d think by now somebody would figure out how to coordinate the interests and positions of the coalition to keep this sort of nonsense from happening.

Believe me, Romney is not “my boy”. Pawlenty was my boy, Bachmann was my girl, Perry was my boy and I guess Santorum was my best boy because I gave him $$ too.
I certainly am not going to tout Romney here on these threads in defiance of our wonderful leader, Mr. Robinson.
My point is not about Romney or any other candidate, past, present or future.
My point is about the attitude of “we can’t win”, “they’re all against us”, “the man is keeping us down”, etc.
And I reject that view.
My grandmother did not travel the treacherous seas of the North Atlantic to come to America and GIVE UP.

No one I know gets all excited about heading to the polls to cast a vote in a presidential primary that’s already been decided. We go specifically for down ticket races.
I don’t care if the GOP was running Satan himself in the top spot, I wouldn’t miss this vote for anything! I’m practically giddy at the thought and I can’t say that about any other primary in my lifetime.

For several election cycles, Lugar has run unopposed in both the primary and the general elections. Just adds to the excitement.
You are in a distinct minority but even you will feel dirty seeing Mitt’s name on the ballot.
You need some real Conservative heroes. These guys ain't it.
You might imagine that's what you are seeing, but what I"m saying is that we cannot give up keeping Romney off the ballot BY WHATEVER MEANS POSSIBLE because his mere presence is destructive.
Just standing there Romney destroys the Conservative vote that would otherwise put TEAParty candidates into office.
