Americans generally don't respond positively to religious bigotry.

So true... so true!

"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent"

 (The Seer, p. 255  Orson Pratt )

When was that quote from? 150 years ago? Back then Protestant and Catholic churches were saying similar things about each other all the time, and Mormons were violently driven away by various members of other churches. As recently as the late 1800s the Pope declared all democratic republics (eg. the USA), as Satanic, and that the only legitimate form of government was a monarchy with a king consecrated by the Church. Show me some comparable quote from Romney, or some current high Mormon official and you might point. Otherwise you are just fanning tired old flames of bigotry.
