You are not far from the mark —there are a number of USN ships named after black 60’s radicals, like USS Metgar Evans, etc.
we have a sub named for jimmy carter. that is understandable since he was a nuke and president but i don’t like naming ships after folks still living with the exception of medal of honor recipeients. we have one named after the EX marine traitor bastard murtha and they want to name lcs-10 after gabby giffords, whose only claim to fame is getting shot. i can think of 4000 deas servicemen who would deserve it more.
