WTVJ Fires Reporter Jeff Burnside for Allegedly Editing Trayvon Martin 911 Tape

You won’t hear it anywhere else but here – insiders have told us WTVJ reporter Jeff Burnside was fired last Friday for allegedly editing the Trayvon Martin 911 tape, the same tape NBC aired on ‘Today’ in early April. Allegedly, his firing wasn’t announced internally and so far there is no information whether NBC made a conclusion if the edit was misleading on purpose or if it was an oversight.

Depends on the market, but I job shadowed once at a station, and yes the reporters edited their video. Network’s another story though, but this was just an affiliate.

My nephew is a film and video editor who worked for CNN for a while. He recently quit his job at a local TV station. He got a better job with a film maker, but he also said he couldn't stand the news business anymore. He said that they're all on a mission to change the world.
He told me there is absolutely no way that the Zimmerman 911 tape was edited by mistake, and claims that it was are bald-faced lies.

Reporters in the field sometimes do edit their own audio (not video) for a report. I work in media and have helped reporters edit audio.
