The Pentagon confirmed Tuesday that it is carving out a brand new spy agency expected to include several hundred officers focused on intelligence gathering around the world.

At a time of budget cutbacks, particularly in the military, it's unclear how the Defense Department has been able to move around the money to afford a new agency. The Pentagon wouldn't get into specifics saying only that the so-called "Defense Clandestine Service"

Sheesh. We have spies on top of spies, and likely have capabilities that are redundant to 10x. Whatever this costs, we can’t afford it!

With DIA already in existence....this is mostly to give some 2-star general a job. And to say it won’t cost anything....that probably wasn’t very truthful either.

But do we have any effective spies or have they been elinated for “political” reasons? Covertly gathered information is also not much good without taking the appropriate action(s).

Officers only? Doomed to fail, except to earn promotions, ribbions, and other fancy, meaningless, chest decorations.

Just subcontract out to Google. They know just about everything about everybody already. Throw in Facebook and you’ve got it all.

Because that’s what we need. Spies to spy on the spies who spy on us.

“....it’s unclear how the Defense Department has been able to move around the money to afford a new agency.”

I don’t know.... Maybe the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand’s doing in DC? Maybe agencies routinely lie about their finances and regularly have more money than they know what to do with? GSA just happened to have a cool million sitting around to blow on a big ol’ Vegas PAR-TAY!

It’d sure be nice if Congress was proactive rather than reactive to the abuse of taxpayer’s dollars for once tho. You know.... Question budgetary requests for a change, rather than just shoveling money at them and then acting surprised when its abused?

My guess is that even the Pentagon realises how useless our CIA is.

What about the Defense Intelligence Agency? Now the Pentagon needs two spy agencies in house, plus the CIA and NSA? Of course none of them will probably ever talk to each other.

Military operators are apparently tired of dealing with CIA stuffed suits, and are setting up their own competing shop.

We already have 77 armed federal law enforcement and intelligence gathering agencies, what’s one more.
