President Barack Obama, courting young voters crucial to his reelection, told a rowdy college-age crowd at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday that he knows first-hand about the burden of student loans because he only managed to pay his back a scant eight years ago.
"Michelle and I, we've been in your shoes," Obama, who turns 51 in August, told a cheering, capacity crowd of 8,000 at Carmichael Arena.
"Check this out, all right. I'm the president of the United States. We only finished paying off our student loans off about eight years ago. That wasn't that long ago. And that wasn't easy--especially because when we had Malia and Sasha, we're supposed to be saving up for their college educations, and we're still paying off our college educations," he said.
The president's emphasis on his modest upbringing seemed designed to invite comparisons to presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney. The White House has denied specifically targeting the multi-millionaire financier with such attacks even as the Obama campaign has pointedly attacked Romney's personal finances.
Obama's stop in North Carolina was the first on a two-day, campaign-style swing through battleground states to reengage young voters who powered his historic 2008 campaign but seem less enthused about the 2012 election. His chief policy message was an appeal for Congress to pass legislation to stop interest rates on a popular student loan from doubling July 1 from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. "I didn't just read about this. I didn't just get some talking points about this. I didn't just get a policy briefing on this," the president said to laughter from the crowd.

In 2007, then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama missed two votes on the student loan interest bill that he now wants Congress to extend. Obama twice skipped the Senate vote on the College Cost Reduction and Access Act when the bill came to the Senate floor first in July and again in September of 2007, according to public records.

“I hate to do this, because its just not me to criticize typos and misspellings. However, this one is so glaring. Its not payed, its paid. I hope my little reminder helps you in the future.”
Many English language dictionaries disagree with your assessment and list “payed” as a verb: “A past tense and a past participle of pay”.
“However”, if it feels so good for you to point out others’ perceived shortcomings, carry on. Narcissists often do so. I hope my little reminder helps you in the future. :-)
...oh and don’t bother correcting my misspellings and incorrect punctuation..I was in a hurry.

OMG. You are projecting your own emotions on me. If you read my post with any comprehension, you would know that I said it doesn't feel good to me to point out others shortcomings, etc. In fact, I hate it and have never done it in all 12 years of posting on FR. Thanks for the little reminder of arcane and nonstandard usage of the word “payed.” It will remind me of you who would intimate that I was narcissistic without a soupcon of proof or knowledge of me. How's that for arcana? I hope you enjoy trafficking in your secret and mysterious language and spellings. Go for it. We low-brows will try to keep up.
EVERYBODY is narcissistic. It’s a necessary stage of child development. Some adults are just pathologically so the extent that it is a personality disorder. :-) I studied on it, haha.
I was not suggesting you are the latter. As a matter of fact I was trying to be funny in my antisocial way.
Anyhow it feels great to be right and if that’s our motivation we should probably just keep quiet. Just my opinion.

I wonder what the Russians will do if he doesn’t get reelected, but seems to owe them? Might not be pretty.
And if not in this world, then the next....
The most devastating anti-Obama ad I can think of would be one that compiles all the instances of him saying "I am the President". Has there ever been any other Commander in Chief who felt such a compulsion to constantly say those words? What a child he is.
BO is consumed with the knowledge that he is ineligible for the office he holds.
