It was inevitable. Mitt Romney is going to sell-out conservatives in his party in order to win the general. And if he wins, he'll sell them out again in order to be re-elected.*
Zeke Miller and McKay Coppins reporting for Buzzfeed have found the first issue on which Romney is trying to put some distance between himself and the conservative wing of his party.
Allahpundit, one of the most perceptive conservative bloggers, also detects the hint of conflict between the GOP candidate and the GOP Congress.
Mitt Romney told reporters today that he supports efforts to extend low interest rates for college loans appearing to align himself with a Democrat-sponsored bill and against Congressional Republicans.
"I fully support the effort to extend the low interest rate on student loans, Romney said at a joint news conference with Florida Senator Marco Rubio. There was some concern that that would expire halfway through the year, and I support extending the temporary relief on interest rates for students as a result of student loans, obviously, in part because of the extraordinarily poor conditions in the job market.
It's a small issue, but it is like the wind shifting just before the storm comes.
Romney's top advisor already described how in the general election you can just shake the "Etch-a-Sketch" and start over.
Here are some issues to watch for Romney betrayal on: spending cuts (particularly entitlement spending), his opposition to the "contraception mandate" on religious employers, his promise to de-fund Planned Parenthood, his determination to label China a currency-manipulator, his stark opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.
There will be many others as well.

Usually Republican candidates wait until they get the nomination and then betray conservatives.

This election season for the presidency is the most hideous non-choice this nation has ever faced. I know I will disagree with some on FR, but I think I'm in sync with JimRob here when I say that a vote for Romney is not the answer.
Here's my reasoning, see if it resonates with you.
Why I am NEVER voting for Romney, even if he is the GOP nominee (shudder)
Many people, online and in-person, have started to shrug and say, "Oh well. Looks like Romney's gonna get the Republican nomination. I'll have to hold my nose and vote for him, like I voted for McCain.and all the other RINOs the GOP have shoved at us. After all, if he's only 80-90% like Obama then he's at least a little better than him, right?"
WRONG. and heres why.
If Myth does 90% of what Zer0 does, he will do it WITH AN R NEXT TO HIS NAME.
What does this do? Well, Republicans in Congress who would otherwise balk at lib legislation if it were proposed by Zer0 WILL SIGN ON TO THE LEGISLATION BECAUSE IT IS PROPOSED BY THE LEADER OF THE GOP.
Imagine: amnesty, tax fairness, gutting the military and so much more ALL SAILING THROUGH CONGRESS because a Republican is at the helm of America. Contrast this with a second Obozo presidency where the GOP will dig in their heels and at least try to fight.
Yeah, I said it. An Obummer presidency is better for America than a Myth presidency (in the way that a cowpie sandwich is better than a meal of broken glass).
This is why we have to have a NOT-ROMNEY at the top of the ticket if we are to have any hope of digging America out of this hole were in. And if we don't, God help us... but I still WON'T vote for him. I'll vote for whichever acceptable, conservative 3rd party candidate is running (so my protest vote will have the most impact), or I'll write one in.
As JimRob says. NO ROMNEY, NO WAY!!
