In my 13 years here on FR, that would be the first time I've ever witnessed a mod admitting it had made a mistake.
I'm with you, I totally understand where you're coming from as expressed in my original post. We post stuff, want it to be as viewed, commented upon by as many FReepers as possible, feel frustrated when they get re-assigned, marginalized.
But I don't think it's a matter of the mods doing anything other than their job.
You've got to realize the incredible pressure these guys are under. Hundreds, thousands of posts per minute coming at them at lightning speed, eyes peeled for that one ugly troll making sure does not get through. It's not easy keeping watch on multiple screens changing every second, to keep things running without incident.
They've got to make snap decisions on the fly, be fast on their feet, most of the posts are in categories that are ambiguous at best, subjective for sure, gotta make snap, interpretive decisions in an instant.
I don't think it's about admitting mistakes as much having had the luxury of time to review it in the proper perspective to have it re-assigned.
Sure, like every one else, I get upset, frustrated, when posts I make are relegated to where it's not going to be as readily seen as I'd like, but that's the way it has to be. Otherwise, FR would never work without the hard work, input, of the mods.
