One of the unfortunate realities of writing about television news is a wholesale dependence on anonymous sources. In conflict with their stated mission of bringing daylight to opaque American institutions, news networks generally dont let their folks speak freely about their workplaces.
And so we dont know much about the people who helped Michael Hastings construct a delicious little hit piece on Chelsea Clinton for BuzzFeed. Network executives lamented her wan presence in interviews. One senior staffer predicted shed be terrible on the small screen. One NBC news staffer signaled that theres resentment over Clintons hiring and the privileges that Hastings documents, again via nameless sources.
All juicy, crunchy, salty morsels. The Clinton-NBC team-up furnishes just so much stuff to play with, and Hastings in this piece delivers details about town cars, live shots and other 30 Rock titillatia. Good on Hastings for rounding up some outraged NBCers.
Yet too bad all these anonymous sources are also shallow and mean creatures. Thats the revelation that hits us when we arrive at this particular passage of the Hastings piece:
Almost everyone I spoke to for this storyfrom within NBC and at other networks as wellagree that that problem is that she wont talk about the one thing that makes her undeniably compelling. How did it feel to be Chelsea Clinton during the Monica years?
Spoken like true TV newspeople: Theres nothing that a little invasion of privacy wont remedy!
To be fair to an unfair argument, Hastings and his sources are saying that Clintons puff pieces on do-gooders dont make for great TV; shes not a real reporter, ,

No, Doug is correct. “Lewinsky” is a noun.
“I hear she gives a good Lewinsky.”
I was thinking about "getting Lewinskied."
Or, "I wish I could get my wife to Lewinsky me."
As gross as it was re-living it, the full details of the account sheds some light on just what a creep the man is. The only possible reason for such behavior is to make the young woman feel degraded, and make sure both of you know that you are degrading her and she is accepting it.
You DO know that you are using the word as a verb in both cases, right?
I'm with you, I totally understand where you're coming from as expressed in my original post. We post stuff, want it to be as viewed, commented upon by as many FReepers as possible, feel frustrated when they get re-assigned, marginalized.
But I don't think it's a matter of the mods doing anything other than their job.
You've got to realize the incredible pressure these guys are under. Hundreds, thousands of posts per minute coming at them at lightning speed, eyes peeled for that one ugly troll making sure does not get through. It's not easy keeping watch on multiple screens changing every second, to keep things running without incident.
They've got to make snap decisions on the fly, be fast on their feet, most of the posts are in categories that are ambiguous at best, subjective for sure, gotta make snap, interpretive decisions in an instant.
I don't think it's about admitting mistakes as much having had the luxury of time to review it in the proper perspective to have it re-assigned.
Sure, like every one else, I get upset, frustrated, when posts I make are relegated to where it's not going to be as readily seen as I'd like, but that's the way it has to be. Otherwise, FR would never work without the hard work, input, of the mods.
There’s something on your nose Lee.
LOL. You’re a clever one. Let me go to the bathroom and wipe it off. :-)
(verb) - You sure Lewinsky like a pro, Lee.
Gee, it may just be an action noun, after all.
My brother-in-law is a FR mod, is especially critical of my posts, never getting over marrying his sister.
BTW, your new nickname comes from how I read your screen name.
There's a Lee who knew a thing or two about Lewinskys and Lewinskying no doubt. And brown nosing for that matter.
Please. Don’t hold anything back. I deserve the abuse. That was a nauseating bit of brown-nosing. Unforgivable.
BIL’s bring the beer for holidays, and you don't want him to supply Falstaff ...
So did her mommy, when you think about it .... until she went away to Wellesley and confronted the rude and demanding LUGs ....
But we'll have to wait for Mommy's story on that one.
Can they stand up forthemselves in a fair fight with your underwear?
;D
