The ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee said on CNN this morning that there’s extra concern for President Obama’s safety seeing as how he’s around people with “guns strapped on their legs.”
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) spoke with Candy Crowley on “State of the Union” about the Secret Service scandal. Cummings and Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) sent a letter to Secret Service director Mark J. Sullivan last week asking for a full accounting of the events and a history past disciplinary trouble with agents’ behavior abroad.
“It bothers me a lot because I know that there are a lot of folks who are perhaps looking for opportunities to do harm to the president or others that the Secret Service, you know, guard,” Cummings said. “And you never know what they think that is a moment of weakness.”
He was asked if he has more concerns for President Obama’s safety because he’s African-American.
“First of all, let me say I have concern about all presidents and everybody that the Secret Service guards,” Cummings said. “But the fact is that African-American people have always expressed concern to me about this president. They see, Candy, folk around this president with guns strapped on their legs. And they say, you know, how can that be?”
“And they’re just — they worry,” he added.
The congressman said he thinks the Cartagena incident was limited to the 11 relieved from duty, “but we’ll find out.”
“So, you know, you can’t, you know, legislate people not being stupid, but certainly you can uphold the high standards of this organization,” Cummings said. “Keep in mind, the Secret Service has been around since 1865, and we’re going to make sure that it remains the great organization that it is.”
As part of this brain trust* in 2000 (and beyond), I suspect your instincts are correct:
Members of the Black Caucus, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., left,
Rep. Carrie Meek, D-Fla., center, and Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla.,
walked out of the ceremony on Capitol Hill in protest of the results
that gave the presidential election to Texas Gov. George W. Bush
over Vice President Al Gore.
*LMAO
Should we be thinking ‘Ghandi’ as well?
No one is more affected by that limitation than you, Cummings. If brains were dynamite you couldn't blow up a bridge in a flea circus.
Check out his Congressional District. Then lookup ‘gerrymander’.
Thats not true, everyone I know wants this marxist punk well and safe. Ok, maybe with a touch of maleria but safe. No martyrdom for this ass clown/ just a through ass whoopin in the general.

I would not mind a lightning bolt or a meteor strike, ideally just when Obama and Romney meet and shake hands.
That Corrine Brown is a real looker, I bet Lazamataz would hit it! :)
Is he referring to the SS? If so, I’m baffled by his statement.
No Candy is not Monica’s Sister in Law.
Not a fan of either those two but if obammy were to become a martyr then Hillary would step in and pick up the pieces.
Read my tag line
I feel safer around people who have a gun strapped on they leg. I have one strapped on my leg and all my friends and neighbors and relatives have one strapped on they legs too.
I wouldn’t worry, they’re obviously too busy with prostitutes to be considered a threat to anyone.. including any Jihadies going after the apostate. Hmm, maybe they should worry after all.
Or some private group to be brought in.
NBP perhaps?
Before the Secret Service took over the job, the Pinkerton's guarded the President, so there is precedent.
There are no coincidences in politics
For sure and for certain.
Nailed it. But the irony of a black Praetorian Guard guarding a guy whose mother was almost literally lily white is kind of discordent, and tends to indicate that it's not really about race, it's more about being Red than about being Black.
Or to shoot first. They aren't going to wait until someone takes a shot at their charge, if they see the threat in time to do that. Unfortunately, their record is not that great. They failed to even notice Oswald, Sirhan, or Hinckley. They did better by Ford, stopping Manson Family member Fromme before she could fire. But it was left to a Vietnam vet in the crowd to disrupt the aim of San Francisco leftist radical Sara Moore.
