Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

Considering that the MSM is a strong Obama supporter, what is their motivation for printing a positive article about Romney?

Are you kidding? It's because they want Romney to be the GOP candidate -- so bad they're salivating over the prospect -- because Romney won't have a prayer against Obama!

Posting made up numbers from the compost isn’t really helping your case...ha ha ha.

Maybe they were asking “severe conservatives”....ha ha.

By the way there is a pretty significant difference in a lot of “conservative Republicans” and conservatives.

Most are “conservative Republicans” now mirror their “conservative Democrat” cohorts...the Blue Dogs.

Some “Republicans” are proving they would vote for a candidate to the left of Hillary just because they have an R behind their name.

I should point out that Hillarycare would probably be to right of Romneycare. I’m pretty sure it didn’t have a tyrannical mandate in it.

The poll in question comes from ABC/Washington Compost- not a lot of credibility there.

Not a site for whoring out your conservative principles for a gun grabbing, pro-abortion socialist just because he has an R behind his name.

My first priority is getting rid of Obama. That's all I have to say.

“Gutless conservatives whore themselves out for Romney”

Gutless pseudo-conservatives whore themselves out for Romney.

Here, I’ve fixed it :)

“voting for anyone with an R behind their name, knowing their record...makes that person a “gutless lemming”.”

Have you read this?

http://noprisoners49.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/an-open-letter-to-the-rnc/

“We do NOT want Mitt Romney or any other Country Club RINO as our candidate. The Democrat crossover voters who have helped bolster Romney’s numbers thus far will not repeat their votes in November, and he will lose in the most spectacular fashion to Obama.

I do not hold any hope that the RNC will find its way back to the American public, and thus am looking forward to the emergence of a new Conservative Party to take your place.

After being a lifelong Registered Republican, it is with great regret that I request my name be with drawn from your list of supporters. I cannot continue to be associated with a political organization that ignores its own rules, much less the voice of The People.”

If the poll looked bad for Romney, you’d be touting the results. Regardless, the poll is more credible than a WND poll.

I think that conservatives are resentful of the fact that the Republican Party has, yet again, foisted a non-starter upon us. Romney is what he is. Edifying him as the “ideal” is equivalent to putting lipstick on a pig. We’re just stating the facts and were not happy with them!

“Now, what about that option of violent take over. There are maybe 2% here who would give up their comfortable lives for freedom. They will sit and complain as you do, but when it gets down to it, we are too comfortable with our lives to risk them...even if when we lost our freedom. So, our choice is clear...do we help the democrats remain in the Presidency out of moral outrage? Do you really think that one can equivocate the danger to us between Obama and Romney being President?”

What danger? Civil war, attempted coup by Obama, invasion by UN troops? All of the above? All if we don’t elect a man whose record shows that he is as dismal a choice as the current occupant of the White House?

“I minored in economics...learned enough to make millions of dollars investing because I understand economics and business. That is why I KNOW that we have not been suffering from inflation as most of the idiots here believe. Gold prices have moved up primarily from supply and demand factors unrelated to money supply. Indeed, our biggest economic threat the last few years was from deflation.”

Conservatism is not just about your stock portfolio. A sewer with a balanced budget is still a sewer.

“. Electing even a liberal Republican will remove that false hope and replace it with anger for liberalism in general, no matter which party. We have made great strides already, but we do not have the numbers yet and need to win over the hearts and minds of more.”

Nope. You win over hearts and minds by standing for something yourself, which Romney failed to do, and which, if the Republicans nominate Romney, they will fail to do. Admiral Sir John Fisher noted that “Moderation in war is imbecility” and the reverse of Clausewitz’ remark that “War is politics extended by other means” is also true, my point being that politics is essentially war. You cannot win by trying to combine with your enemy.

Nope. I don’t tout polls because I think they are all fixed to get certain results.

Not sure where you get your history from...both California state houses were controlled by the democrats for both of Reagan’s terms. But yes, California tended to vote Republican for President...but not much else...

http://www.presidentprofiles.com/Kennedy-Bush/Ronald-Reagan-Governor-of-california.html

During his tenure as Governor he called for some tax increases and backed off on some budget cuts...something that would probably make it impossible for people like you to vote for him today.

“You should probably avoid linking to Romney’s website for your arguments about how conservative he is. That kind of self inflicted wound will get you zotted pretty fast...and I am having way too much fun to cut this short. Ha ha ha”

Didn’t realize that would be that kind of offense...you sure about that? Glad you are having fun...but, do think about your position...take a fresh look. I know what you are saying and there would be many times where I would agree with you, but not this time. We HAVE to remove the democrat party from power at all levels...
