The Newt Gingrich campaign found itself in a state of confusion Friday night when reports surfaced that Gingrich would cancel all of his stops in North Carolina next week, fueling suggestions that Gingrich would be suspending his campaign. But the campaign says nothing is happening.
Two people close to the Gingrich campaign told ABC News they were contacted and told all of Gingrichs North Carolina stops had been canceled, although R.C. Hammond, communications director for the campaign, said there was a communication glitch.
There was confusion, but we will maintain our North Carolina schedule next week, Hammond said.
One person close to the campaign said the stops were certainly canceled, then resumed after news reports left looming suspicion, even among his own staff, that Gingrich was suspending his campaign.
On Friday, the vice chairman of the North Carolina Republican party told the Shelby Star that he was contacted and told a stop a tavern in Kings Mountain, N.C. was canceled. (edit)
Hammond denied the stops were resumed purely to extinguish speculation Gingrich was dropping out.
The North Carolina guys were instructed that the schedule was going to be redone so they called and told people, now theyve got to call and tell them its back on, Hammond said.
Gingrich will campaign in Delaware Saturday and will also campaign there Monday in a final push to pick up delegates. Hammond said Gingrich will not be dropping out any time soon, and certainly not before Tuesday.

“Read the writing on the wall and stop wasting your time on Gingrich posts.”
Bwaahhhhhh..... that’s rich, coming from one who shows up on practically every Newt thread espousing the same old verbage.

“Newt never had any business running for President. Period.”
He had as much business as anyone else running.
Maybe Newt is smart enough to realize if he makes a comment against AGW right now then that is all the media will focus on for the next 6 weeks
I dont CARE whether he believes it or not- his SOLUTION is good- less government and an end to ridiculous and useless EPA regulations that do nothing and cost $billions
“He had as much business as anyone else running.”
Voters overwhelmingly disagree.
“Voters overwhelmingly disagree.”
That was a non sequitur. You are illogically attempting to claim that anyone in an election that doesn’t win has no business running.
A second illogical point you are trying to make is that the election is over. It isn’t.
“That was a non sequitur. You are illogically attempting to claim that anyone in an election that doesnt win has no business running.”
No it wasn’t. You declined to address my main point, and posited another, to which I responded. You then whined “non-sequitur”.
Is it a non-sequitur to point out that voters don’t want Newt? I don’t think so.
“A second illogical point you are trying to make is that the election is over. It isnt.”
No, the point I am making is that Newt could never have gotten the nomination, given his issues, which you and most other Newt fans dismiss humorously and minimalistically by pre-emptively admitting he’s “not perfect, but....”
Newt usurped the “conservative” mantle because the big-government moderate that he really is (his actions, not his words) candidate slot was already occupied by Romney, and he knows you can fool conservatives by simply talking like one (we’ve been so beaten down since Reagan).
Newt had no business running. He never had a chance. He will throw in with Romney if he can get enough delegates to matter to Romney.
Somewhere in a cave on a remote south pacific island, there is a 90 year-old Japanese soldier that still thinks WWII is going on. Meanwhile, his “Opponent” has won, moved on, and doesn’t care about the soldier in the cave, because he is no longer relevant, even if he is the last person to realize it.
his campaign seems to be a “dysfunction junction.”
Mitt hasn't won anything yet, Newt hasn't moved on yet and some folks still work for the possible, even though improbable, to happen.
Other than all that, your above story is germane (lol).
If you think Mitt hasn’t “won yet” then you probably think a football game isn’t over when your team is down 50 points with 10 seconds to go in the fourth quarter with the other team first and goal.
