For nearly two months, George Zimmerman has been largely a cipher, a riddle whose voice has been heard only in 911 calls reporting a young man acting "real suspicious."
On Friday, the world learned more about Zimmerman as he, his wife and parents testified during a hearing in Sanford, Florida, to decide whether he would be released on bond while awaiting trial on a second-degree murder charge in the February 26 death of Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman's wife depicted him as a man she has never seen angry. His father said he was a truthful man who had long been concerned with helping others. And his mother said he had organized a campaign to "get justice" for a homeless man who had been beaten in Sanford, as well as mentoring a 14-year-old African-American boy from a dangerous Orlando neighborhood.
Zimmerman has acknowledged killing Martin during an encounter in his Sanford neighborhood, saying he shot in self-defense. Critics have depicted the Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer as a racist who profiled Martin because he was African-American.
His family said nothing could be further from the truth.
"I know that he is very protective of people, very protective of homeless people and also of children" -- regardless of their race, Gladys Zimmerman said in testimony meant to prove to Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. that Zimmerman would not be a threat to the community if allowed to leave jail while awaiting trial.
She said he has been a mentoring the 14-year-old for three years even though the program he had joined shut down after only nine months because of the economy.
She said she begged him not to go because of the danger.
"He said, 'Mom, if I don't go, they don't have nobody,'" Gladys Zimmerman said....

There was rumor of a piece of evidence (possibly visual) that had not been disclosed created between the time Zimmerman hung up with the dispatcher and when he was decked by TM.
Maggie showed a picture of the entrance of the community with camera. Were there other camera’s placed throughout the community?
I haven’t heard anything about a camera. Even if there was one, it might only be for show.
B T T T
True. Camera boxes were install in school buses but in reality there were only two actual cameras that rotated between thirty buses. The threat of use and a couple of kids caught in action were all that was needed to improve ALL bus behavior.
C-Span was supposed to have the same effect.
But the kiddies soon found out that the cameras were only on the Floor, so they let the usual trouble makers do their usual antics for the cameras, while the real shennanigans are going on quietly out of camera shot.
Link please. Thats the first time Ive heard that.
So, where is the link? And where is the insult in asking you for a link? And what does it have to do with watching the hearing which would mean I listened to it.
Link please.
Are you saying that congress critters are smarter than a first grader? If so, not by much.
hmmm..... where were the black mentors?
the dealers and the players were too busy counting their money to bother. The bangers were too busy killing each other the taggers were too busy defacing property the girls were too busy giving away their services
That's it? That's not much of an acorn. The pig's going to starve to death on that diet.

Can’t say as I disagree with you, but at least we can be prepared if and when it comes out in the hearing or trial. :-)
I noticed that the investigator really didn’t go into any details on the “witness,” whose statements may or may not corroborate George’s testimony.
If she can’t, however, identify either of them, what good is her testimony? It could have been anyone running through the complex.
The defense attorney should be able to knock that down with ease. Joggers.
“Why does Trayvon have gold teeth at such a young age? Were his God-given ones knocked out or was he allowed to eat way too many Skittles? Or is this just a hip-hop, gangsta thang? Hes an adorable cutie-pie, then within a year or two, hes p#$%*d at the world, flipping us off, flashing some gold in his mouth.”
And I’m sure you’d have the same hatred were he white. Racism isnt just using the N word.....
” And Im sure youd have the same hatred were he white. Racism isnt just using the N word.....”
No, you are a TROLL....and ignore facts in evidence.
There is no hatred here, just dismay.
What chase? I thought that was a bald faced lie, morOnsky.
“attorney should be able to knock that down with ease. Joggers. “
Yes, when I go jogging at night, my jogging partner and I always chase each other. It’s great fun, and we add a few “help!”s and we can get a gullible bystander to call 911 in no time.
Obviously, I meant Martin wanted to teach Zimmerman a lesson.
Give us any evidence that Zimmerman started the physical confrontation between the two. The prosecution doesn't have any evidence of that.
What chase is right, idiotsky. No mention of a chase anywhere in that. Liar!
It has been my experience that rural blacks in general, tend to be more conservative, and more concious of their rights to self-defense and property than urban blacks.
Oh, and did I mention, the civics teach is a black woman?
I had a number of black teachers who understood that rights aren't rights unless they apply to all, equally. But that was before affirmative action. Good to see that continues, at least a little.
Object to black criminal culture, and you're a racist.
Like you said, just wait for the trial, and St Trayvon's hagiography will likely have to be amended.
As for the hip-hop,gangsta thing, it is a subculture, with behavioural standards which do not apply to all blacks. Questioning that particular subcultural affiliation isn't racism, but assuming that would be questioning all blacks reeks of the sort of stereotyping that is.
