There was no grand jury. The prosecutor brought the charges on her own.

I thought there was an initial grand jury and they didn’t issue a true bill for first degree murder, hence the prosecutor charging him with 2nd degree, which doesn’t require a grand jury to indict.

Prosecutor asking Zimmerman’s dad about son’s prior arrest and charges related to alleged assault on ABC officer. Prosecutor asks (para), “You just believe everything your son says and don’t question whether he’s telling the truth or not?”

Dad Zimmerman: “I believe him because he’s been honest his whole life”

I stand corrected. Appears she feared she didn't have enough to indict and so dismissed them the day before they were to convene.
