I've checked with an ad agency. We can probably raise the funds we need to operate FR at our current level and at the current market price for online advertising if we run a banner ad at the top of every page and at least one rectangular ad in the above the fold body of the page and a couple rectangular ads in the sidebar. If that doesn't generate enough revenue, we can also run pop ups or pop unders and we can even run audio and video ads if need be. But of course, if we go full bore commercial, we'd have to insure strict copyright compliance with very brief excerpting of all articles to avoid lawsuits. And the agency would require that we install a filter to censor out any bad or unacceptable words in our posts.
Or, of course, there's always the membership model. We could setup a members only system where paying members get full access and non-paying members get throttled back, etc.
I don't like either of the above models and think we'd soon lose a lot of our readers and participants. Of course that may happen anyway if we can't fund it and if we cannot get our equipment problem under control, or if my refusal to vote for or support an abortionist/homosexualist/statist who has plans to install ObamaCare, er, I mean RomneyCare into all 50 states runs everyone off.
The donation model has served us very well since 1997 when we first started using it. It's very clean, uncomplicated and we attract participants who perhaps can't afford membership dues but do want to join the discussion and join our rallies, protests, prayer sessions, etc. And the advertising model would probably bring in the revenue, but it comes with strings attached.
I'm sure there are other ways and ways to combine features of various models, sell books, cds, gear, etc, offer no ads for paid subscribers, etc, even ISP services, but all of these also complicate matters.
I'm an old dog and I like to avoid new tricks, new complications, additional overhead, additional accounting, additional rules and regulations, etc, wherever possible. I like to stick to simplicity and with what works.
Thank you all very much for your continuing participation and support.
Actually, a lot of people here supported Perry, but most were afraid to admit it, lest it invite the most vicious of attacks. If complaints were filed, the mods seldom ever intervened (I know of no such instances, in fact, but I’ll say seldom because there might be some I didn’t see).
So now it seems the trend here is to suppress even Romney votes, even if he is the Republican candidate. Sounds like someone wants Obama to win pretty badly. I can’t tell you how upsetting that is, coming from a site that once was a great conservative place.
Back in 1998, I debated about whether to use MizSterious or MizEllaneous—flipped a coin, and that’s what I use. ;)
Romney is a liberal and NOT a good candidate. He also is NOT the nominee. The primaries are NOT over.
What would that be? A pointless stand that nobody will remember and that wont even be a ripple in history while a known tyrant whos already announced he will be more free in a second term to ruin this country gets another term?
I would rather win this election and eject Obama from our White House in January, but not at the cost of replacing him with a fellow traveler who will do nothing to slow or alter the ruling class agenda.
There's still a slim chance that we can somehow get the real conservative over the finish line, but the pressure, inertia, and momentum of the ruling class' intent to push the liberal candidate forward may be unstoppable.
Therein lies the predicament for people of good character and conscience. We're being presented with a choice between two candidates that, underneath the hood, bear a striking resemblance to one another. What real choice is that?
Every one of us will react to this predicament in some way. How one reacts says everything about their character.
Some will insist that candidate R is better than candidate O, while refusing to honestly examine his record (which strongly indicates otherwise). That's like a girl who pretends she doesn't see her boyfriend's hand on her girlfriend's leg. In other words, they're too afraid to look, for fear of what they'll find. It's just easier to pretend that he's got a decent bone somewhere in his body, and that you'll be able to 'change' his ways.
Some will look at our choices and conclude that the ruling class is going to push their agenda through, no matter what we do through the civil mechanisms of politics. Those folks correctly see that Romney and Obama work for the same masters, and understand that we're being played like pawns in a very large and evil game.
I'm in the former group.
I'm one of those who recognize that we are now realistically at the point where the solemn compacts that have bound us together as a people, have been crushed under the boot heel of a small, yet incredibly determined leftist movement that has been slowly overthrowing our constitutional form of government for nearly a century.
The 'system' is broken. If people look at this election and don't see that we're being manipulated like herd animals, then they're more blinkered than I thought.
We're being led to the slaughter. Some will go willingly under the illusion that they're making a survival choice. Others who can see what's happening, will refuse to be culled, and will defiantly stand their ground.
A paradigm shift in reality is in order here for many of my fellow conservatives. That's going to require that they squarely face what's really happening here, and realize what their real choices are.
I’m sorry that you’re so upset. Have a bowl of ice cream and a good cry, you’ll be right as rain. :)
Romney is not yet the nominee.
I refuse to vote for a liberal. Not going to happen. There is no difference between Romney and Obama except that Romney is more affable about being a destructive liberal.

Hmmmm...is this your SECOND opus, Miz? You left once before over the FLDS battle when FR didn't go your way and then came back. I truly am surprised to see your support of Romney.
It appears that FR doesn't meet your standards, so one of the other boards may be more to your taste. Remember the old song, "got along without ya before I metcha, gonna get along without you nowww..."
And...that goes for every one of the "I'm not gonna donate if JR doesn't fold" posters.
In my opinion the posters predicting/wishing for doom for FR are not in numbers high enough to cause their hoped for effect. There will be new sign-ups coming in, as there are every day.
Perhaps they won't all be free riders.
That is the saddest damn thing I have ever read regarding this site! You can't even get a candy bar at the store for a buck anymore.
"No one board is "the only game in town" these days."
Welcome to Free Republic, America's exclusive site for God, Family, Country, Life & Liberty conservatives!

I’m not upset .. not with you. You’re not worth it.
I feel sorry for you, but that doesn’t excuse your poor manners and your lack of knowledge.
