I served,during wartime...full enlistment term (6 years).Although I was never ordered to a combat theater (Southeast Asia in my case) I still almost pooped my pants on a number of occasions before,and during,my term of enlistment,particularly after hearing DI's tell us that they'd have us on the next plane to Vietnam.
