The political spotlight has shifted to Pennsylvania.
To Lancaster County, specifically.
The stars have come out for the Republican party -- at least, some of the stars.
Presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich addressed a big GOP fundraiser, one week before primary election day.
Many of the 1,200 attendees of the dinner are still undecided about who will get their vote.
They heard two different speeches, and one political analyst says one person missing could have made huge gains for Mitt Romney.
The anticipation was high for many Republicans in the Lancaster Convention Center.
They knew each candidate would have stirring speeches.
"Lancaster County really is sort of the conservative base in Pennsylvania. So to win Pennsylvania in the Republican primary you need to win Lancaster County," said Ethan Emme, the chair of the Republican Committee of Lancaster County.
Mitt Romney took the stage first.
"Boy do I want your support," he said. "We're going to win the White House in November with your support you know that."
There was no talk of the primary on April 24, just how he will defeat President Obama in November.
And by doing that he would put America back on a path of prosperity by helping to create jobs, cut the deficit and lessen some government regulations.
"The President says he wants to fundamentally transform America. I don't want to change America, I want to restore to America the principles that made us the hope of the earth," said Romney.
Newt Gingrich took the stage an hour later reminding people he is still a force in the Republican primary and still asking for a chance.
"I come to you tonight because we need a candidate capable ofdebating Barack Obama in September and October and capable of telling the truth," said Gingrich.

.......In Lancaster, Terry Christopher, 29, was sitting with Ruth Ann Souders, 63, whom he had just met sitting at their assigned dinner table. When asked if they were Romney supporters, they glanced at each other and gave a slight laugh, giving away that they had just finished having that conversation.
Christopher said he was “pleased” Romney was the candidate, but wasn’t overly enthusiastic. Souders had been pulling for Newt Gingrich.
“Hopefully, Mitt can kind of give us some confidence. He doesn’t have to preach to our strict conservative Lancaster County values — just show us he’s a conservative leader who can get us out of the mess that we’re in and lead us to a victory in a couple months,” Christopher said.
A few tables over, Alvin Miller, 74, an auctioneer, said he had liked Santorum, but knew all along it would be Romney as the nominee. Asked if he was a Romney supporter now, Miller said simply, “Well, yes. Sure.”
The driving force for Miller is to beat Obama in November.
“We got to get him out of here,” he said.
Santorum, who left the presidential race a week ago ahead of the state’s Tuesday primary, was slated to speak at the Lancaster event, but backed out. In a conference call with supporters Monday night, he held out on endorsing Romney.
“As far as how you vote, that’s up to you,” Santorum said on the call. “I haven’t supported any candidate at this point, so that’s really up to you.”
Gov. Tom Corbett officially endorsed Romney on Tuesday afternoon, saying in a statement that the primary season is over and it’s time for Republicans to unite around Romney.
One man isn’t quite ready for the primary to be over, though: Gingrich, former speaker of the House and born in nearby Hummelstown, closed out the event, asking the crowd to “consider” voting for him next week. He received a warm reception from the socially conservative crowd, garnering applause for references to crosses and the Ten Commandments being allowed in public buildings and prayer in schools. He aimed to distinguish himself as the truer conservative who can beat Obama.
But Robin Stauffer, 48, a corporate secretary, who said she has been “pretty much” a Romney fan throughout the primary process, thinks it’s Romney’s moderation that can win the White House.
“We need to find more common ground to move this country forward,” Stauffer said. “I think Mitt Romney will help us do that. I think he’s a little more centrist, and he is probably more appealing to the masses, maybe.”

I honestly understand the left better than our own Romneybots. Where the heck have these Republican moderates been for the last four years? Are they serious?!? Apparently. Do they not understand how the left plans to destroy America in order to rebuild it in their image? Do they not realize the rise in gas prices is all part of the master plan to save the planet by forcing Americans to conserve? The left hasn’t made it a secret.
No. The reason I understand the left better is because they actually fight for what they want. You cannot deny they are enthusiastic for their cause and continually work in small ways and large to advance it.
Now compare that to the Romneybot moderates who voted so we could find common ground with the left. Not apparently believing in much of anything themselves, it’s more important to compromise with the left to “move the country forward.” That literally is like finding common ground with a brood of vipers.

I see two scenarios. The best one being Newt stays in the race and actually wins...! Quite a longshot but worth hoping for. The second is Newt stays in the race in accordance with the speculation in my previous post. Not nearly as good, but Newt as veep will reduce the nausea caused by voting for Romney in the general.
My parents live in that county and it is quite conservative. I go there regularly every year for their Somerfest and Oktoberfests. Good times.

Should Newt somehow pull off the biggest comeback since the 2004 Red Sox and get the nomination, what makes him think that a debate with "the Anointed One" would be anything but a major sham? Granted, Newt would mop the floor with him in a fair fight, but you would have to be an absolute moron to think that would ever happen.

But when you make up lies out of whole cloth, in an obvious attempt to insert FUD and tar the one conservative remaining in the race as being in Romney’s back pocket, you cross the line.

PPP's newest- and perhaps final- poll on the national GOP race finds Mitt Romney running away with 54% of the Republican vote to 24% for Newt Gingrich and 14% for Ron Paul. Those numbers don't suggest Gingrich will have much of an ability to compete in any of the remaining primaries. Romney's net favorability is now +42 at 65/23, a 23 point improvement from a month ago when he was at +19 (54/35).
Romney is now winning all of the groups that he had struggled with over the course of the primary season. He's up 47-35 on Gingrich with Tea Partiers, 50-30 with Evangelicals, and 48-33 with 'very conservative' voters.

The most striking number in the poll may be Romney's 72/16 favorability with Tea Party voters. That's definitely indicative of a party base ready to get on the same page.

Yeah, everyone quoted in that article were absolute idiots. They're doing nothing but parroting the Republican-run media spin that "Romney is the nominee." Which of course is nothing but a self-fulfilling prophecy. Tell everyone that Romney is the nominee before they vote, then they vote for him, then he becomes the nominee. With idiots like these voting our politics will continue to be controlled by Wall Street mega-millionaires.
