FR Exclusive: Convicted Sex Offender Headlines Obama Campaign Event Emceed by Manager Jim Messina
Monday, April 16, 2012 | Kristinn Taylor

Obama reelection campaign manager Jim Messina emceed an event for Obama campaign volunteers Sunday night that was headlined by a rock singer convicted of sexual battery on a college student in 1990.

The popular rock group The Red Hot Chili Peppers played a concert at the House of Blues in Cleveland last night for about 1200 Obama for America supporters who volunteered time at Obama phone banks. From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

...On Sunday, the Cleveland Heights woman joined 1,200 Obama volunteers at the House of Blues to hear the band play a 45-minute set that included its anthem, "Under the Bridge," and "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie." The Chili Peppers had approached the campaign about helping the president's re-election bid while they were in Cleveland.

The free show came just hours after the Los Angeles band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The show mixed the band's caffeinated struts and funk-rooted songs with Obama's campaign themes. It underscored the impact of a heavy-hitting band like the Chili Peppers has on getting the political message out.

The Obama campaign had announced last week that volunteers who signed on to help with a phone bank would get free concert tickets. Most of the Obama volunteers at the show have worked with the campaign for years, staffers and volunteers said. The phone bank last week contacted about 39,000 people, campaign staffers said.

"I was going to volunteer, and they said that I could get tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I said, 'What the heck?"' Cowell said. "I've never seen the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've heard of them, but I never heard them."

She may have been alone Sunday.

The crowd stood and sang with Kiedis and bandmates Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), Chad Smith (drums) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar). The band, formed in the early 1980s, rode the alt-rock revolution to stardom. At every turn, the crowd chanted song lyrics and shrieked the members' names.

Jim Messina, the national campaign manager for Obama, introduced the band, saying the members appeared "because they care about their country."

Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis was convicted in 1990 of sexual battery and indecent exposure against a female George Mason University college student who was working backstage at the Chili Peppers' concert on April 21, 1989 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax County, Virginia.

According to the victim, Kiedis exposed his penis and tried to force her to perform oral sex on him against her will.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Kiedis' 1990 conviction.

Four years later, in 1994, the Clinton administration dropped Kiedis as a spokesman for a campaign to promote condom use produced by the Centers for Disease Control, according to the New York Times.

The Obama campaign recently became embroiled in their own 'war on women' campaign tactic when Democrat advisor and former record industry lobbyist Hilary Rosen attacked Ann Romney, saying of the wife of Republican party presidential front runner Mitt Romney, that she has "never worked a day in her life.

In 2008, the Obama campaign forced the campaign of Republican presidential opponent Sen. John McCain to cancel a fundraiser with Texan Clayton Williams over Williams' remark from 1990 comparing the weather to rape. Williams was quoted as saying, “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”

What was the backstage task she was doing after the show, alone, with the singer? I bet a lot of chicks are going to be taking sound tech classes,,,,

“as part of her duties as a member of the Program Board, she waited in the hallway of the Student Union Building opposite the room to which the band members were taken after their performance”

Translation into rock,,, the groupies (ahem,,program board members) were taken to what would normally be the “hospitality room”, to meet the band. She was there for fun,,,period. And she found more fun than she wanted. She was there to party,, but a little less than him. True _business_ from the program board would be done through the management or road crew.

She wanted to have fun with the rock star, he probably thought she had plaster too. Sounds like a pretty embarrassing misunderstanding IMO. But a “sex offender opens for Obama” headline just makes us look stupid here.

I worked a number of rock shows during that time, but not this one. I never observed employees being sexually assaulted or abused like what took place at this show.

You forgot the rest on the story,,, that this was from her million dollar civil lawsuit against the bands management company. And this interesting line,,

“Count I of the Motion for Judgment also claims that the four band members went to the plaintiff’s [**3] car, knocked her to the ground, took her keys, and entered her car to leave without her permission or consent to take the car. The plaintiff seeks consequential damages of $ 1,000,000 in Count I from defendants Kiedas, Fruscianti, Smith, and Balzary.”

It sounds like it went from backstage,, where the ENTIRE band tried to rape her,, and then again,, the ENTIRE band went with her out to her car,, and were about to steal her car! Pooor thing!! Abducted by the entire band backstage,,, and headed out to her car where it finally ended. Just one question,, how did she sneak them out to where her car was without her competition seeing??

And a million dollars because of that? Please,, people shot by the police often settle for less than 500k.

I’m just sayin’

BS,, and i keep hearing little inuendos, but why not give us the whole who, what, where, how, and when? Including who she is? IIRC, she was alone in the dressing room with him. So why? What EXACTLY was her task that required her to be in there? Who was she working for? Did they confirm they they sent her there do do task “X”? Was she professional? Did she knock,,, wait for an answer,,and say “i’m here to for “X”?

Just posted the complaint details above for you which answer these questions. She is not anonymous - if you choose to look you can find her name. A judge sided with her (and the witness) version of events based on testimony. RHCP have also been pulled from ad campaigns in the past (even by BJ Clintoon's White House(!) because of this). So this perv is radioactive to prez BJ's regime but an acceptable window dressing for Obamao & co.

Don't ya mean she was working the show for the Obamah campain, not the university?

Did you read the article?

"Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis was convicted in 1990 of sexual battery and indecent exposure against a female George Mason University college student who was working backstage at the Chili Peppers' concert on April 21, 1989 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax County, Virginia."

Obama ran for political office in 1989/90?

Yes,, we all know that the cold hard truth is best found in civil lawsuit complaints, and judges rulings.

And Crystal Mangum got attacked by Duke LaCrosse,, Nifong told us so. Think all the Nifongs get exposed? Sounds like a gold-digger. Even accepting her story outside the room,,, is she seriously saying that she decided to leave,, and the ENTIRE band,, followed her to her car? And were getting ready to steal her car?? LOL.

Translation,,, whatever happened in the hall, the band clearly didn’t understand she was saying “no”. Because then she says after the incident, they now take this whole little “meeting of the minds” out to her car,, obviously to take the party somewhere else. Finally she decides she doesn’t want the whole band in her car, with the lead singer driving. And then the nightmare ends.

Clearly she was playing her game and got in over her head. This reminds me a LOT of the Kobe “rape”. Where the desk clerk got off at midnight and stopped by Kobes room before she left to see if he needed anything.

You forgot the rest on the story,,,

no, I posted an excerpt from the legal brief to specifically answer your questions. Yah, there is more to it and if you are truly interested in the incident there is plenty of info out there. Bottom line is that the guy is/was way over the line even for a "rocker". I guess the judge in the case did not take into account your rule that "rockers" are entitled to sexual favors from any woman within a 100 foot radius of their presence. Is that Scottish Law or UN policy?

Your attitude is why some women are reluctant to press charges when they are sexually assaulted.

I can sort of understand why you take that point of view, but every case is its own. Don't let Anita/Crystal etc... lead you to think that every woman must lying. If it makes any difference to you, based on the chatter in the aftermath in and around here - she was not a gold digger.

Guess thats why she sued for a million. And yes,, it is utterly insane to believe accusations in these situations without solid proof. And for those who claim it is my attitude that makes actual victims reluctant to report. It’s not,,

It’s Crystal Mangums, it’s Heidi Jones and her lies, it’s the DSK maid caught on the phone talking about making money on him,, it’s Susan Smith who lied to us, it’s the slutty tailhook women, it’s the accusers of half a dozen high ranking military officers, it’s the woman who serviced Kobe then tried to make her Bf jealous and cash in,,,and then don’t forget the hit parade raped by Herman Cain. The runaway bride nut? How about that heroic Air Force woman, who was abducted in Afghanistan,,managed to escape the Taliban,,, and ran an epic 30 miles, barefoot in the wilds of asia to make her escape? (and i thought “Rescue Dawn” was badass. Shes like Steve McQueen, James Bond, Christian Bale and Shaft,,, all rolled into one!
These and so many more, make me very slow to believe sensational claims, such as “the entire RHCP chased me alll around GMU attacking me”.

Yes,, the nature of sexual assault clearly often means there will be no witnesses, i do get that. But also many men are OFTEN wrongfully accused in ways where it is utterly impossible to mount a defense beyond saying she lied, or we had consenual sex. The false accusations come for the most crass and craven of reasons. And False accusations never result in prosecution, but often end in wealth and fame.

So do not blame me if true victims are reluctant to report. Blame the women who have brutally taught us that they are never to be trusted in sensational claims, simply on their word.

Not to play devil’s advocate, but the Duke rape case is why some men, including me are afraid of dating. Because it turns into she said, then she said. It’s never he said/she said with something like that.

The judge knew the facts, not you. You seemed to just have some axe to grind. So far you came up with every excuse why not to believe her. And accusing others here of not doing something. And were able to list off a litany of former accusers - do you keep a log or something?
