Obama Camp, Sensing Shift, Bets on a Long Shot in Arizona

PHOENIX — President Obama’s re-election campaign is dispatching workers across Arizona’s college campuses and Latino neighborhoods this spring, registering as many new voters as they can in an organized, three-month effort to determine whether they can put this unlikely state into play for Democrats this November.

By any measure the obstacles are considerable: Arizona has voted for precisely one Democratic president since Truman was in the White House. Yet Mr. Obama’s aides said in interviews that they thought it was possible they could move the needle of history by winning in 2012 a state that analysts believe is heading Democratic in national elections, but may not be there yet.

Obama strategists are simply following the same techniques they used in 2008 when putting states like North Carolina and Indiana into play. Then, too, there was much initial skepticism, though both states ended up going for Mr. Obama.

Exactly, they know they can not hold North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Indiana or Florida. They are adopting the Kerry strategy of battling for Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.

They view that is their best bet to win and their best bet to steal if they can not win.

You are confused.

People who vote democrat are people who are at the two extreme ends of the spectrum(very rich or very poor) and they are dumber than dumb when it comes to economics and the role of government. They do not spend much time thinking about things like registering for the vote or even renewing their driver’s license.

People like us are already registered to vote and we will do so no matter how hard the hoops are to jump through to get registered. We show up to vote every time unless we are protesting something or someone.

If you really want a guaranteed republican victory, you should be against voter drives and for more difficult registration procedures. This would weed out the dumb people, and the people who have less interest in politics and such people are almost always democrats.

The only shift they sense is negative towards them. It looks like desperation.

Agreed, Darth!

If Romney comes close to winning MA (he's only behind by 11 in the last Rasmussen poll FWIW), he’ll win a landslide in both the popular and Electoral vote totals nationwide.

North Carolina, Virginia and Florida and Obama skates to another 4 years thanks to our RINO Yankee Mormon nominee.

Actually, that would be thanks to whoever did NOT vote for Obama's main opponent.

The New York Slimes, a house organ for the Democrat party, is engaging in psychological operations for their Moloch-worshipping temple prostitute Obama.

In other words, the media is trying to make Obama look so strong that he can even try to win Arizona.

Obama is being pummelled nationwide. The “purple states” as the press likes to call him, are sick of him. Obama is going to lose states he lost last time like Indiana and North Carolina.

He is in trouble in the northeast except among the Democrat havens like Rhode Island.

Hell, Rasmussen has him up by only 11 points in Massachusetts versus Romney. Any given Democrat should be up by 25 or 30 in that state.

No, this is an attempt to scare people who love America. Don’t fall for this nonsense...it is crap. Obama is not going to win Arizona.

And he probably won’t win re-election. He is Carter on steroids, and Americans didn’t want Carter for a second term.

Time for the Govenor of AZ. to check the voter rolls and make sure that they are all eligible to vote. It doesn’t hurt to check those forms that are sent in. After all, AZ has a huge immigrant problem and I would bet a cheeseburger that they are going to college. Just sayin’!

Exactly my thought! There is never a ‘drive’ around here to get people registered and/or excited. It’s insane!

0bama is registering them so illegals can be bused in to the polls to vote in their stead. 0bama wants the names registered; He knows who’ll be voting in their place.

You have that right. The all consuming blindness and silence is downright eerie.

It’s like certain destiny to hell, and no one who could push back, will.

God be with us.

“This is about exploiting illegals who are pissed off that someone is trying to do something about illegals. Purposely violating laws and any reason for their own power.”

Who is the “Someone”’ on the GOP ticket that is trying to do something about illegal aliens?

Paul Ryan and Ron Johnson are turncoats. Paul and Mittens handed out sandwiches like a cheap SNL skit at Cousins sub because the Romney camp was worried that Rick was going to win Wisconsin.

Romney didn’t spend any time in WI before the primary..just swooped in for his photo op.
Santorum was there for a couple of weeks..criss crossing the state and meeting people. All of our volunteer efforts were cancelled by the Johnson/Ryan endorsement.
I will never forgive either of them.

Don’t expect anything better from DeMint. He bailed and endorsed Mittens too.
And Rand Paul is Ron Paul’s son and he’s still in the running. Oi vey...
The GOP has really stepped in it this time.

There is a distinct difference now between the GOP and Conservatism. They are polar opposites.

The urgency and passion used to be with the latter. We’ll see if the Tea Party will surge again. I kinda doubt it.

In other words, if the democrats can get enough illegal immigrants to vote three times each—or better still five times each—they can win the state of Arizona.

Yeah, because isn't he "targeting" AZ with a scope complete with "cross hairs" just like he, the Dems and the media accused Sarah Palin of doing just as that congresswoman got actually shot???

They're just saying "Damn the hypocrisy, full speed ahead!!!"

More likely this is a pre-emptive move in advance to the Supreme Court hearing on 25 Apr on the Arizona Immigration laws. Obama knows he will lose all or most of that battle. They have to get the folks riled up about it.

Then you have several voter ID laws that may very well get heard this session. Texas appears to be a good shot for a Supreme Court hearing on voter ID.

The SC has not been good for Obama in the last three years. The Sackett EPA ruling, the ruling about the religious employee, a couple of rulings against the drilling moratorium in the gulf and others have not gone the administrations way, and they may just lose on ObamaCare.

It’s hard on the moral to have that many cases deemed unconstitutional by the appeals courts and the SC.
