Tornado sirens sound in Oklahoma City amid warnings of 'life-threatening' storms
msnbc.com, Updated at 9:38 a.m. ET: OKLAHOMA CITY ^ | 4/14/12 | By The Associated Press and msnbc.com staff

At least three possible tornadoes hit central Oklahoma early Saturday in a prelude to what forecasters warned could be a day of "life-threatening" storms in the nation's midsection. No injuries were immediately reported.

Department of Emergency Management official Michelann Ooten said the possible tornadoes were reported west and north of Oklahoma City. One was spotted near Piedmont, a small town where a twister last May killed several people.

The National Weather Service was working to confirm the reports.

Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Brown told The Associated Press the storms were fairly weak but still damaged some homes. A tornado that touched down Friday afternoon sent 10 people to the hospital with "bumps and bruises" and ripped through southwest Normal, ripping up telephone poles, shredding trees and ripping off rooftops, according to the Oklahoman.

Batten down the hatches! Here they come. It's going to be a long day, with the worst hitting between 3-5pm, radio reports are saying. Take precautions, FReepers-in-the-areas!

Graciously hear us, O Lord, when we call upon You,
and grant unto our supplications a calm atmosphere,
that we, who are justly afflicted for our sins,
may, by Your protecting mercy, experience pardon.
Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Yes, please pray for all in the way of this coming *hell-on-earth* weather. A Cat 3-4-5 twister is a very scary thing! Been there, many times more than I care to remember.

I hope I’m wrong, but it looks like this day is going to get really ugly for more than just some.

Bad thisafternoon, worse through the evening and overnight. Keep the NOAA radio handy, and good luck Kansas!

In KC now - quiet before the storm. Charging up the laptop in the basement just in case. I’m in the “moderate chance” part of Kansas so hopefully we’ll just have some much needed rain.

Our Family Farm has a 20’x40’ custom-version of this one, which Dad & I built years ago, and works just fine for many emergencies and TSHTF scenarios. We’ll all be going down there later, after the livestock is safe and secured.

Scoll down to bottom and imagine a h-u-g-e version of this I-beam unit. Click on bomb shelter link to see other types from that co.

(No, I don’t have any vested interest in that co, except it’s saved lives, on many occasions.)

My old stompin' grounds. Hope all fair well. BTW, MSNBC I believe that yesterday's tornado was in Norman, not Normal. Not sure there even is a Normal in Oklahoma.

And whoever now owns H.A.R.P. can increase the power and steer these storms wherever they please.

That area’s going to leave a terrible “mark”, wherever it moves from/to.
