Progressive Caucus chairmen: West's communist crack smacks of McCarthyism

The co-chairmen of the Congressional Progressive Caucus called comments made by Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) reminiscent of McCarthyism.

West said Tuesday he heard a rumor that about 80 Democratic members of Congress were in the Communist Party. West declined to give names.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) compared West's comment to Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-Wis.) who in 1950 said he had a list of communists in government.

Joe McCarthy has been vindicated by history, not that it would matter much to the ‘historians’ in modern America. I don’t know what Party memberships exist among modern Rat congressmen, but ideologically the shoe definitely fits.

If it's this, then he didn't say he heard a rumor, he said that he believes the number to be 78-81, and then he refers to the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
