The attorneys for George Zimmerman, Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig, said Tuesday they have lost touch with their client and are withdrawing from the Trayvon Martin shooting case. Uhrig said in a news conference that the legal team heard that Zimmerman on Tuesday had contacted a special prosecutor who will decide whether or not to press charges against him, against their advice. They said they have not talked to Zimmerman, whose location is not known, in person in at least two days but in the past had spoken with him over the phone. We cant represent him unless he comes forward and asks us, Uhrig said. "We have a pretty good idea where he (Zimmerman) is," Uhrig said, but added that Zimmerman is not answering the phone. The attorneys also expressed concern about Zimmerman's "emotional and physical safety" and said they have reservations about a website Zimmerman set up to solicit money for help in his defense. "Him setting up his own web site is fine," Sonner said. "I wish he would have told me. Zimmerman is the neighborhood watch volunteer who has admitted to fatally shooting unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin in Florida. Zimmerman is the focal point in two separate investigations into the death of Martin, 17. Zimmerman, whose father is white and his mother Hispanic, says he shot Martin in self-defense after following him in a gated community in Sanford on Feb. 26. The lack of an arrest or charges in the case has sparked protests nationwide with many claiming that Zimmerman pulled a gun on Martin because of his race. Zimmerman's supporters deny that. Special prosecutor Angela Corey is investigating the fatal shooting in Florida; the U.S. Justice Department is also investigating the case.

I heard that as well- given the climate around here right now I think he’s wise to stay out of Florida unless and until the prosecutor’s office charges him.
Exactly- in point of fact- it would be kind of shady if they kept speaking FOR him without speaking WITH him.
They were doing this pro bono until/if charges were filed anyway.
I don’t post much anymore but I have a low tolerance for knee-jerk reaction to headlines and had to put my two-cents in :)
I got the same impression about the lawyers after watching the press conference...don’t be fooled by reading only the headlines. They were very forceful in their belief that Zimmerman should NOT be charged and had taken on the case pro bono UNLESS charges were filed against him. I definitely got the sense that they are worried about him...no contact with them for two days. They mentioned several times that he has a bounty on his head..that he cannot seek help from anyone because he can be recognized AND because there have been death threats. They felt they had to announce that they were no longer representing him because ETHICALLY they cannot continue to represent someone who is out of contact with them, but they believe in his case and would continue helping him if HE chooses to contact them.
I don’t blame them at all...and I can’t imagine the hell that Zimmerman is going through.
What do you think ? Why would he make such destructive choices?
IMO Mr. Zimmerman perhaps thinks that because he is not guilty if he can just talk to enough people and get his story out there it will all go away. Very naive on his part. Don’t think he has any idea of the larger agenda. Perhaps would have been better to get a high powered defense team in place from day one, even though then the press would have said if he truly were innocent, there would have been no need for a lawyer. Regardless of the outcome, Mr. Zimmerman will never see his life return to normal. This is not going away anytime soon. Gerri on the Willis Report today posted Zimmerman’s thug picture and Martin’s babyface pic on her FOX Business program today. Things like this will continue to fan the flame.

I’ve been hoping Peru offers him (GZ) asylum, and spirits
him away. He can’t get a fair trial any where (or, to
add to the parade of horrors, any UN tribunal)
Agreed. The laws are the same whether paying an attorney 700$ an hour or 300$ an hour. If the client does not communicate and take their advice, the attorneys need to withdraw. It’s the smart and ethical thing to do.
Zimmerman’s attorney(s) said very little while his client was assaulted for weeks by a biased media and assorted black racists and others. Bad, bad choice.
Yup. They were his attorneys, they signed with him, they represented him. So right when the fight is about to start, they bolt and leave him to find somebody else. They should be expelled from the profession of law and maybe from human company for a while too.
I have no truck with cowards.
His father was a judge, so he’s not likely to be flying blind as far as reasonably competent advice.
This would make his behavior seem inexplicable outside of the possibility that he and his father have come to distrust the motives of these attorneys, for one, or that this is stagecraft to get the fact that Zimmerman has quite literally been forced into hiding in fear of his life past the plainly biased media gatekeepers.
That it did, you’ve got to admit, intentional or not. It even prompted an apparent attempt at rebuttal from Crump.
Zimmerman’s a democrat - his father probably is too... Might be corruption involved... or all this could be bogus... From the first link (second link is stranger):

George Zimmermans Father Retired Judge
Robert Zimmerman, a former Orange County magistrate judge, recently wrote a letter to The Orlando Sentinel defending his son, whos been dragged through the mud for shooting the unarmed 17-year-old last month. In the letter, the senior Zimmerman asks people not to jump to conclusions and insists that his son didnt follow the young boy home as he walked through their gated community.
He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event became public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media, wrote Robert Zimmerman.
Now more info is being dug up on his victimized son through public records and revealing his checkered past.
According to a records search on George, he was previously arrested for domestic violence, resisting an officer without violence and most shockingly, resisting an officer with violence a felony charge that surely could have landed him in prison.
All three of those arrests, however, were mysteriously closed with no semblance of charges for the Florida resident. So how was someone with a violent past including that of battery against an officer able to carry a 9 mm handgun? Maybe thats a question Robert Zimmerman should answer.
