George Zimmerman attorneys quit as counsel
news.yahoo.com ^ | 4/10/12

This story will be updated as new events unfold

•Zimmerman's attorneys announced they have stepped down and are no longer representing him
•Attorneys say Zimmerman has not stayed in contact with them, scheduled media appearance with Sean Hannity on his own
•"It's no so much that we are resigning. It's that we cannot continue to represent him until he comes forward," said attorney Craig Sonner
•"He's got to reach out to us," Uhrig said

Despite stepping away from Zimmerman as a client, both attorneys say they continue to believe he acted in self-defense. "We frankly believe the correct decision will be to not charge him," Uhrig said.

The attorneys say they know of Zimmerman's location and have his personal phone number but have been unable to reach him directly for 48 hours.

"George can't go out and buy a Diet Coke. There's a bounty on his head," Uhrig said.

He could have made a wiser choice than Hannity, Hoosiermama. And it sounds to me as though he is in a panic and making some really bad choices. I do not think the attys did anything to cause this though I could certainly be wrong. I do not know anymore about this than anyone else. It just sounds as though he is really unstable right now. You bring up some good points.

I feel the same way......cannot leave him on the radio for more than 5 minutes. Today he possed me off by saying the trayvon case was a tragedy.....said this several times. He will do or say anything for ratings.

Of course dropping a client is not criminal and it happens all the time. You obviously missed my point. The point was that dropping a client for not being in touch for 48 hours in these circumstances is a BS excuse and may be malpractice.

Every attorney has a a duty to zealously represent their client once they take them on. Attorneys MAY withdraw but it has to be for good cause AND not harm the client.

My point is that if you have a valid attorney client relationship with a client who is under death threats and has a bounty on their head, them not responding should be cause for alarm NOT dismissal.

The whole thing does not pass the smell test. I agree with other posters that the attorneys are seeking attention and harming their client in the process. I could be wrong and Zimmerman could know he is a free man and agrees/greenlighted their behavior.

If NOT I would, at a minimum, get their a$$es sanctioned.

Watched the conference. Thought the same thing. Something stinks. My first inclination is political pressure. Lawyers love democrats.

I’ve thought all along that Zimmerman seemed reasonably intelligent.

With him putting up a lame website, choosing Hannity, of all people, to “go public,” and, in effect, dumping his lawyers, well, not so much I guess.

Maybe the stress has muddled his mind.

His refusing to talk to them probably had less to do with their decision than the fact he contacted Hannity and the prosecutor’s office. Both are unstable and dangerous decisions.

For the lawyers to come forward with a news conference after talking to him on Sunday. This is Tuesday afternoon. Thirty hours or so. Doesn’t make sense for THeM to be in such a panic. Surely they know how to get hold of his family. His family would know if he is alright etc.

They have put him in a “worse” position by stating they don’t know where he is....Am sure the TanKlan will now double their efforts.

Why not contact a credible journalist?
You show me a journalist who blew the whistle on Michael Nifong within a week after Chrystal Mangum decided she needed to frame the Duke Lacrosse Team, and I will show you a credible journalist. It was that obvious, that early.
You will not only not identify the journalist who did that within a week, you will not be able to find the journalist who ever blew the whistle on the rest of journalism for continuing to parrot Michael Nifong months after it was painfully obvious that Mangum’s charges were a hoax.
So, essentially the term “credible journalist” is an oxymoron. As long as you are talking about journalists whom wire service journalism would respect as “objective.” Face it, anyone who claims to be objective - or who belongs to an organization which claims its members are objective - is off-the-charts subjective.
If you want to try - just try, mind, not assure success - to be objective, the first thing you must do is examine your own motives and be brutally honest and open about them. In the case of a journalist, motives would be to attract attention and to self-promote - and that will always bias a journalist toward seeing only the worst in people upon whom the public depends. Since proclaiming your own objectivity is the opposite of openly declaring your bias, no “objective journalist” is credible. None.

I said earlier I do not think not being able to contact him had less to do with them withdrawing than the hannity contact and the website...and esp calling the prosecutor. I agree with you about the family though he and his brother are estranged and have not talked in years. The news conference makes no sense to me at all. And if I were Zimmerman, I would have fired them when they came up with the “shaken baby syndrome” defense. That sounds crazy.

Is this really so hard to read between the lines?

Sunday Z tells his attorneys he is going to launch a personal website.
They tell him "we don't need you to do that"
"Gunna do it anyway"
"At least let us vet the content before it goes up"
"OK"

That is the last they hear from him

Monday the site goes up, with a photo of a black cultural centre vandalized. For a guy trying yo play the "not a racist" card, this is not a good look.

His lawyers realize there is a big problem. Z still won't answer phone calls.

"George get in touch or you are on your own"

His brother, Robert was on MSM and relayed material that George had told him and was very supportive of him.....Doesn’t sound estranged to me.

Well, you certainly make some valid points...maybe I should have said..”more” credible. You made me laugh with the .credible journalist being an oxymoron. Sadly...oft times true.

hoosiermama. I watched that interview. If you see it again, listen carefully. The only reason I caught it was I saw clips of it after Zimmerman’s attys said it had been years since they have spoken. When the brother is asked several times what Zimmerman told him about this or that, he would pause and then refer to what his brother had told his attys...not him. Not one time did he say his brother told him anything. I think the brother was looking for his fifteen minutes.
