Obama on Why Michelle Was a Working Mom (at $316K Per Year): We Didn't Have the Luxury for Her Not to Work By Terence P. Jeffrey April 9, 2012
(CNSNews.com) - Speaking Friday at what the administration called The White House Forum on Women and the Economy, President Barack Obama said that after his two daughters were born, he and his wifeboth Harvard Law School graduatescould not afford the luxury of having her stay home with the children.
In 2005, when Obama began serving in the U.S. Senate (and his daughters turned 5 and 7), he and his wife were earning a combined annual income of $479,062. Barack Obama was paid a salary of $162,100 by the U.S. taxpayers, and Michelle Obama was paid $316,962 to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center.
And then there is the woman who once advised me at the law firm in Chicago where we met, Obama said of his wife in his Friday talk. Once she gave me very good advice. That's why I decided to marry her. And once Michelle and I had our girls, she gave it her all to balance raising a family and pursuing a career--and something that could be very difficult on her, because I was gone a lot.
Once I was in the state legislature, I was teaching, I was practicing law, I'd be traveling, he said. And we didn't have the luxury for her not to work.

And we didn’t have the luxury for her not to work.”
But he found the time to assist in the writing of two books about himself
before he was 45, and to get bungholed at every bathhouse along the way.
That’s weird, seems to me I remember articles stating he never actually practiced law. Was he practicing law like he was a law professor? (neither)
Gee . . times wuz hard for the Obamas. . and then, the amount he was making was actually more in real dollars than it is now.
Sigh . . but, you know how it is, it takes a lot when you’ve got champagne tastes. . but, now, like Bill Clinton, he’ll never have to pay another light bill.
Her thighs are too big, that’s as close as she can get!
Not mention the fact that being a Senator has many perks and benefits. $162k goes a lot farther for a Senator than for an average Joe (not that many average Joes make $162k a year.
Michelle only had the $300K job for the two years Barack was in the Senate/running for president. Not that point-of-access-to-hubby had anything to do with it.
The real family finance calculation would take her (much lower) income while he was a state rep. No, they weren’t rich. They were comfortably upper middle class, but I’m sure Barack’s anguish over the price of argula was not feigned.
Barry -- ''Let me be clear, as clear as mud; I don't know anything about Michelle's 'Patient Dumping' while at the University of Chicago Medical Center. ''Or the doubling of my wife's salary ($317,000) at the hospital through my state senate earmark. I don't know anything about it.'' =================================== Countdown until Jackwagon leaves Office: 286 days as of April 9, 2012. |
From what I gather, that position no longer exists. Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a job listing like that until she needed to make a ton of loot (or get out of the house).
“I’ve always wondered why moo-chele consistently stands with her legs spread.
I wonder if she’s not tucked in.”
She is just drying off her ‘check book’!
I can understand women who WANT to work even if their husband has a six-figure income, but really... “could not afford” for her not to work.
It is true that people can have financial struggles no matter how much they make because you can always spend more than you make. But a person who simply cannot make it on a low six-figure income doesn’t know how to manage money AND definitely should not be in charge of the world’s largest economy.
“Maybe we can call this one the Grapes of Trash “
LOL!
Perfect!
And to think $162K/year and all you do is show up and vote "present".
