“Just ask various Japanese or Germans in bunkers.”
By the time the japs and krauts conquered freaking Kansas, there’d be nothing left of the country anyway.
People need their security blankets.

I wish we could afford one of those, but Dad & I built an expanded 40’x20’ version of this basic unit:

Also sounds like Mr Hall is going to be hard-pressed to get an ROI on that project, any time soon. I wish him well. When TSHTF, “getting there” is also going to be problematic if an owner lives far away. My Family’s “SU” (Safe Unit) is only 100ft away.

I’m with you on this. If we get hit with the “big one”, I’d rather go right away.

I can remember driving from Wichita to Tulsa, you would see several of them in the distance from the road. The only missile complexes in that area were the Titan II sites and the closest one to I-35 was 532-1, and it was 3.7 miles from the highway.
There were no ABM or anti-air sites in that area either.

LOL! SEEK SHELTER IN A MISSLE SILO! HA! HA!
The stupidity is beyond all reason.
After they knock out the primary targets, which is why you have a shelter, the second wave knocks out all secondary targets, that would include old and outdated assets.
Why not build them next to a gyroscope plant, or maybe a ball bearing manufacturer?
The picture of Larry Hall was lifted from Webster's, under the word idiot.
I can just imagine what his customer list looks like.
What has happened to the world?
Idiocracy is here, we are surrounded by idiots, and they are allowed not only to reproduce, but vote!

Might not be such a bad idea seeing how both are mostly made in China now.

Idiots. Far better to buy an isolated place no one knows about or can easily access. If everyone in the county knows about the food there, don’t you think the mayor, police chief, national guard, etc aren’t going to “inspect” the place for code violations and confiscate their food as fines?
It’s one thing to fight off lone desperados, quite another to fight the local authorities.

You are the end product of over two billion years of evolution. Don’t tell me your survival instinct petered out in the last couple of easy living generations.

That’s the way it is with most Americans. Our fore Fathers wouldn’t believe what a bunch of ‘wussies’ we’ve become.

Nice class warfare rhetoric, Bitsy. :-P
The idea is not to live underground indefinitely. The idea is to shelter in place with your family, if required.
Let’s say there is general social unrest due to a large-scale viral outbreak. (One possible scenario in which you might need to shelter in place.) You can put plastic up on the walls of your house and hope no infected people break in to steal your stuff - and possibly infect you - or you can have a nice underground bunker to retreat to until the situation stabilizes.
If I had the cash, I might take the one with the in-ground pool. ;-)

That movie supposedly came out in 2008. I have never heard of it and they don’t show it on Netflix at all. I just watched the trailer and it looked pretty good.

Shucks, I was going to ask you to spot me a million so I could put one on lay-a-way. You’re in the same fox hole I’m in :-)

The silos may be empty, but have the Russians removed them from their target list? Probably not.

Depends on the geology of the area.
