The special prosecutor assigned to the Trayvon Martin shooting investigation now says she will not take the case before a grand jury tomorrow, as had been scheduled.
Angela Corey, special prosecutor in the case and state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, said Monday that her investigation will continue, but the grand jury will not hear the case.
Corey stressed in a statement that the decision to forego the scheduled grand jury proceedings did not reflect whether or not there will ultimately be a prosecution in the case.
In lieu of a grand jury, Corey's office can choose on its own whether or not to charge George Zimmerman with a crime in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon on Feb. 26.

The pressure on this woman has got to be incredible, but if she does her job, she will decline to prosecute.
Zimmerman is toast.
Interesting.
This may be because she thinks the evidence points to the local prosecutor making the right decision.
Or it may be because she’s afraid the grand jury would agree with the local prosecutor and the state will file charges itself for political reasons.
Personally, I think the law should be changed so all such deaths should be presented to a grand jury which will make the decision whether charges are justified or not. This will to some extent take politics out of the decision. Such decisions are much to important to be left to the judgment of individual prosecutors.
A special appointee knows she could get an indictment of a ham sandwich from the grand jury and declines. Smells like there is no there there.
They are trying to string this out as long as possible in the hope that the initial politics will be diluted.
Zimmerman won’t be charged with anything.
It was self defense.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Trayvon picked a fight with an armed person and lost. DEAL WITH IT, BLACKS!
I hate to think it, but IMO this woman is just clearing the way to bring charges herself. I’d love to be wrong, but I highly doubt it.
(BTW I wouldn’t be surprised if zimmerman is made to come out of hiding if he is not assassinated)
Earlier Monday, lawyers for the neighborhood watchman said that if Zimmerman is not charged, he would speak out. Zimmerman has not spoken to the media since the shooting.

The press coverage has made getting an impartial jury nearly impossible. Any attempt to prosecute now would turn into a quagmire.
IF she does decline to press charges it will have been IMO one of the most publically courageous, perhaps THE MOST publically courageous act I have ever seen*
*(and of course, alas, this is why I am not expecting it)
The DA filing charges is the safest course of action for Florida and pesonally for the DA.
Zimmerman will have to face trial and the jurors will be under incedible to convict or they will likely will end up with a price on their heads also.
Throwing Zimmerman overboard is the safest way for everyone that gets tied into this.
That's my thought as well. The mob's energy isn't infinite. There won't be any reasoning with them.
On the other side of the fence (from the mob), the law does not want to be in the position of (or having a reputation for) prosecuting innocent people.
Agree but wasn’t that also the case with King Rodney II, especially in LA County?
Zimmerman’s going to have to skip town and change his name in any case... I’m beginning to thing it would be to his advantage to go on trial. If he never has his day in court, he won’t ever get a chance to clear his name.
apparently Angela Corey is a republican, however as we all know on the era of cowardly, appeasing, RINOs that may not mean much.
A special appointee knows she could get an indictment of a ham sandwich from the grand jury and declines. Smells like there is no there there.Exactly! It took 5 posts for someone to get to the meat of the issue.
C'mon, FReepers! You're slow today!
I believe if she decides to charge him, there would then be a preliminary hearing to see if there is enough evidence to go to trial.
So she could still have cover if the preliminary hearing shows that there’s no reason to try him.
