My post 42 as well as at least one other on this thread, acknowleged both the differences in our political orientations and the most basic common human decency to wish that he now RIP.

How long do we have to wait after his funeral before we can all, in good conscience and in the interests of historical accuracy, once again acknowledge that he was a treasonous SOB who candidly stated that if given the opportunity he would not try to warn American soldiers that they were walking into a Taliban ambush.

When can we once again say what we all said about him before he died?

"Do you realize that someone means one person and you going of the subject of my complain of the subject"

WOW! What an intelligent statement you made and I should bow down at your feet for that. SomeONE means ONE person and not someONEs??? I don didn’t now that, Missy/Mistersy? I not going off (oops, of – your quote) the subject, but waz just stating another example of how FR has changed over the years and how the level of tolerance has been lowered to the point that JimRob would let such a statement still stand, as addressing Christmas (therefore Jesus) with a “F”owl word.

Why are you so disappointed? You’ve been around? Have you been too busy posting and running that you have not noticed what FR has become lately? No, “we” are not better than that anymore. And NO, I am not going "of" the subject.

When our consciences allow, it seems. That apparently varies from one nanosecond on the Breaking News FR thread for some, to waiting to post discontent about the deceased on an alternate thread or not at all for others.

It’s appearances, I suppose, that bothers me and a few others on this thread, among other things. Respectfulness of the deceased’s family, a desire for the forum to not be viewed as hateful.

You know...conservative values.

IOW we should be hypocrites and pretend we are really really sorry that someone like Mike Wallace, who literally made a career out of destroying other people's lives finally met his inevitable end?

Oh, I'm so sorry that this SOB lived 30 years longer than my father. He obviously died a premature death and should have lived to be 120. Of course if he had his way, he'd rather have watched our soldiers die at the hands of Taliban terrorists before they were old enough to drink than to risk losing a journalistic scoop. Spit!

Frankly if I happen to walk past the graveyard and see his tombstone, I suspect I will have an uncontrollable urge to relieve myself in the grass.

RIP Mike Wallace.

You won't hear me disagree.

There was a day that politics was the practice of upper-class gentlemen who, when they disagreed, disagreed with civility. Those days are long gone for the Democrats, and on the Republican side, they're largely gone outside RINO circles.

However, the mere fact that we're engaged in a gutter fight with people who in many cases (not all) have no sense of decency or respect for American values doesn't mean yelling on an obituary thread is always the best response. True, the goal isn't to be nice, but the goal **IS** to win, and sometimes tactics perceived as overly nasty can seriously backfire.

I understand the comments by veterans who are furious at Wallace's comments about not warning soldiers of an ambush. That's a fair attack and it will work.

Here's the clip, and note by the way that other reporters on the panel, including Peter Jennings, said they'd try to help the American soldiers even if it risked their life:

On this narrow point, I think we can win an argument that because Mike Wallace was willing to make money off reporting on the deaths of American soldiers and do nothing to help them, we can criticize him at the time of his own death. I think Mike Wallace would have to agree with that.

I'm not so sure some of the other comments are helpful to our cause in the context of an obituary thread. Let's remember that Chris Wallace of FOX News may very well end up seeing this thread, and let's write the way we would if we were talking face-to-face with Wallace family members.

I absolutely hear and understand your point. And the family has my condolences. It absolutely sucks to lose people you love.

But for myself, I can’t get too worked up over the loss of someone who helped the other side accomplish their goals, in whatever capacity. I have family members who died fighting those same goals. Their memory means a lot more to me.

Again, I point to the likes of Ted Kennedy. Everything he did legislatively - whether he actually believed it was for the good of the country or not - was to the detriment of our people. I would be lying to you if I said that I wasn’t relieved when he finally left us - it meant he could do no more damage.

My point was that he chose sides, and that side wasn’t ours - his own COUNTRY’S side - so I won’t eulogize the guy and pretend he was something other than what he was.

Not going to slam him anymore beyond what I already said, either. It is kind of pointless.

What is particularly scary about that link is that Peter Jennings at first gives the patriotic and correct answer; however, under the influence of Mike Wallace, Peter Jennings changes his mind and embraces treason.

Agreed on Jennings initially giving the right answer and then backing down.

However, I think his second answer may be more a question of admitting the realities of his own likely cowardice in a combat situation where he'd be putting his life at risk to warn Americans of an ambush. Most of us don't know for sure what we'd do in a hypothetical situation until we're there. Basic training and AIT exist for a reason to develop survival skills before they're needed, and embedded reporters who are not former servicemembers are probably going to act like many other civilians who haven't been trained to deal with combat conditions.

I'll give Jennings the benefit of the doubt. There is no doubt what Wallace said.

I’m not saying not to fight liberalism. Fight liberalism until the sun goes down and then some. But there is no place for grave-pissing or dancing. That crap is counterproductive.

Not disagreeing with you, friend.

And I wasn’t grave-pissing. Just merely stating that just because he died, it doesn’t negate the damage he did to other people with his “reporting”.
