An NBC News producer has been fired after a misleading report on the Trayvon Martin case suggested that shooter George Zimmerman was racially motivated.
The edited audio clip from a 911 call implied that Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., shot Martin because he was black.
"This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black," according to the clip that aired March 27 on the Today show.
A transcript of the actual recording of the call between Zimmerman and the 911 dispatcher shows the version that was aired was significantly modified.
George Zimmerman: "This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about."
911 dispatcher: "O.K., and this guy - is he white, black or Hispanic?"
George Zimmerman: "He looks black."
After critics blasted the segment as misleading, NBC News launched an internal investigation into how the recording was edited, and concluded on April 3 that there had been a mistake.
The unnamed producer, who has been described as experienced, was fired on Thursday. His dismissal was first reported Friday evening by The New York Times, which cited two people familiar with the matter.
NBC News declined to comment about the firing.

Read where?
Or was it the producer that predicted how the Gulf would take decades to recover from the deep horizon spill. How many times was that one poor pelican shown on their broadcasts?
Or was the NBC producer that covered the Duke Lacrosse team insisting that the players were guilty?
Or was an NBC producer that issued a disaster warning because of the fact of global warming?
SO many to fire - so few to keep. What will NBC do? How will they shill for Obama if they have to fire their best propagandists?

Never liked OH-58. First two flights in one in RVN got shot down both times.
.51 in the transmission was bad ju-ju.
Loved the LOH
I’m an old network hand. He, and anyone he reported to who had any reason to know about his tendency to do this sort of thing should have been axed. A few years back, I worked with a former producer for another network, who bragged about how she regularly staged news coverage and her superiors wholeheartedly approved. If the MSM is ever to recover even the slightest hint of credibility, a wholesale house cleaning is in order. Anything else is just a sham.
No, the fire/truck producer got the ax back then.... as did the reporter and a manager.
I was ABC Radio in NY for a while, then CBS TV side.
You?
PS: networks are toast, and the suits know it.
Fired yesterday = long gone?? Are you sure about your info?
Name mentioned on one of the blogs was Jim Bell....but it has not been confirmed.
I preferred flying the UH-1H. The only reason I loved flying the OH-58 was for the mission and I didn't have to put up with a copilot. LOL!
"Mark the target with a burning 58!"
Scouts out!
>.Some friends and fields at my old shop (CBS) knew him. Said he was a wonker.
Did they name him?
“The unnamed producer, who has been described as experienced, was fired on Thursday.”
I don’t believe them.
They have been caught lying so many times that I don’t believe anyone was fired.
It’s a start. Thanks MindBender26.
The whole network should be fired because this fellow is just a dime a dozen.
Even the LSM is into the Friday evening dump of bad news.
Maybe someone will tweet his address to Wee Spike Lee for him to pass on.
Is Jim Art Bell’s brother?
Have no idea. Just picked up the name from a link on another thread.
I think NBC fired a vacant position. State and Federal governments do it all the time to make it look like they took strong action and made meaningful cuts.

I worked on OH-58’s for 10 years.
