Are Mark Davis and WBAP parting ways?
Dallas Morning News ^ | Bruce Tomaso

would seem so, from this blog entry, which Davis posted this morning:

The question has arisen, and here is the answer. My contract with WBAP's new owners, Cumulus, ended last week and we have been unable to reach an agreement on a renewal. I will be in all the other places I occupy-- Fox 4 and WFAA, and my column in the Dallas Morning News-- and I will be here in the blogosphere every day, often multiple times, with my thoughts on matters large and small. Keep a good thought for all my friends at BAP, and treat them with high regard. Everything is cordial, and I have nothing but good things to say about everyone in that operation I have served for 18 years. No matter what happens, I will be in touch.

I listened to Mark Davis when he first started on WBAP; I think he came from Maryland; he was probably considered a conservative in Maryland.

As I listened, I could tell he was very carefully feeling his way. Frankly, I think that he was a left leaning moderate when he started at WBAP..because that’s exactly what he sounded like.

He was very careful in the way he spoke at the biginning, but still sounded like a left leaning moderate for a few months until he was able to discern what side his bread was buttered on here in the Dallas area.

And ya know..he still sounds like a moderate lefty on occasion..that is; when I take the time to listen before Rush starts.

Yes, he was considered conservative when he use to be on the old WRC radio in the early 90s. I listened to him everyday. And he was actually conservative, by my old line Indiana standards.

I hope Davis and WBAP come to an agreement. I like listening to him for DFW/Texas issues, along with national politics. The callers who tend to not like him are the Ron Paul supporters. Even the left wingers who call in to his show respect him, even though they don't agree with him.

Cumulus has stated this week that they want less talk radio. They canned Laura Ingraham this week as well. I suspect they will try and take off Levin before too long.

I like Mark Davis. Yes, his shtick with his voice can be annoying but he is a conservative. I can’t tell you how many TEA Party functions he has volunteered for here locally, but they are many. I know his producer and she is conservative, too.

I’v tried repeatedly over the years to listen to Davis, and I've never been able to. There was always an “in love with his own voice/vocabulary smugness” that would drive me away every time.

You hit the nail on the head. My final straw was when he was defending David Letterman for Letterman's disgusting comments about Bristol Palin. From there I knew he was a phony. I called in and he was condescending with his fake valley guy sayings, such as "dude chill out" and such. He was flailing all over the place during the call and he finally hung up, saying that he knew that call would be trouble.
