An Austin police officer was killed in the line of duty earlier this morning, and a suspect has been arrested.

Officials say the officer was fatally shot inside a Walmart off Interstate 35, north of Parmer Lane, in North Austin.

Austin police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Hipolito said officers got a 911 call about an intoxicated person at the store at 2:21 a.m. It was not immediately clear what happened after that.

The police officer was killed at a Walmart by an “Asian male.” The incident where Austin police killed a black man after a traffic stop was separate.

FYI....the pictures you’ve posted had nothing to do with the cop’s shooting death; they are related to a totally different story.

You mean to say the People’s Republic of Austin is not a paradise where they just keep it weird while being laid back? Say it ain’t so!!! The Wal*Mart shooting will become abundantly clear just as soon as they fully review the store video - WMT covers every square foot with a camera.

It was not immediately clear what happened after that.

Per an interview with the police chief here on KLBJ AM radio this morning, the officer was called to a drunk disturbance at Walmart.
When he arrived in the store and approached the man a fight ensued.
The man then drew a weapon and shot the officer in the neck.
The office went down but got out a call - he did not draw his weapon and return fire.
Two Walmart employess tackled the shooter and held him until the back-up officers (who were already enroute) arrived.

Brave employees. I hope their actions don't bring on job repercussions for resisting felons.

I heard about this on the radio early this morning. APD Chief had a news conference from the scene. Asian male was drunk and started fighting the officer, got a semi automatic pistol and shot the officer at point blank range.

That incident at Manor Rd and Airport Blvd is in one of the BAD parts of Austin. Nothing good happens east of IH 35. Driver fled and tried to fight the officer. PD tried to taze him, but that didn’t work. The usual “suspects” are calling in to KLBJ talking bad about the APD - AGAIN.

After hearing both these stories this morning on the news while driving in to work, I have to wonder if the first incident where the police shot the man who tried to run then fought the officer had any effect on the actions of the second officer. With the shooting just a few hours before, I have to wonder if that affected to officer’s reactions any and maybe that caused him to wait longer than he should have before taking action.

I imagine the officer who died was not expecting a drunk to start fighting right away. He never had a chance to draw his service revolver.

Austin's just keeping it weird...

On the other hand, Texans are about fed up with this sh#t. Nipple sucking parasites "acting ghetto" is about done. I'm in the medical profession and to a woman and a man, every one of my coworkers has a weapon with enough ammo to make a Yankee faint. I'm talking from the unit secretary to the 19-20 year old students volunteering and working as techs. I'd say that about 50-60% of the nurses have concealed carry permits and the rest have the second amendment.

The TOFUS and the democrat party want a race war so badly, but they are so ignorant of math. "Hispanics" HATE the African-American population worse than any Klansman. The LK's and Mexican Mafia are just itching to clear out certain types from the neighborhood. It's happened in Cali and Texas is going to be a real bloodbath if this degenerates into a shooting match.

The officer leaves behind two daughters, ages 10 and 6, and his parents.

Prayers for those girls...so sad.

He described a dramatic scene in which Walmart employees then tackled the suspect, whom he described as an Asian male, and detained him until other officers arrived.

It's good to see folks fighting back and doing the right thing!

A LEO never knows when the person they’re approaching is batsh!t crazy or just a mean drunk. In hindsight, waiting for backup would have been the wise thing to do.

My prayers go out to his family.
