I don’t know if the springs had to puncture anything for this to happen. I’ve seen several cases of this involving cars, in which a car runs over a mattress and gets stuck on top of it, and then the heat of the exhaust system ignites the mattress. Before you know it, the entire vehicle is engulfed in flames.

I don't buy the spring theory. It would be plausible that friction, engine heat and sparks from the springs on the asphalt might set the mattress on fire, the heat from the fire burning through a fuel line or softening a plastic tank enough for a spring to go through it after the fact.
