The press is circulating Republican-insiders stories again, this time saying Mr. Electable is unelectable.
Dont buy the latest spin from Democrats. Conservatives should stay calm, cool and collected.
Mitt Romney is the most presidential of Republican nominees since 1988. He looks the part, he acts the part and lives the part. He has worked his way up and made it on his own even though his father was a prominent businessman and successful governor. He is the grown-up in the room whose blandness is a strikingly attractive alternative to the All Trauma Obama presidency. Over the years he has taken progressively more responsible positions from head of the Mormon mission in France to CEO of Bain Capital that have built his self-confidence and the trust of others. When people talk about the Republican establishment, they are really talking about the successful people who will make up his government. This is about running a government.
President John McCain? Come on. What were we thinking? OK, the bench was thin. President Bush forgot to develop an heir.
Mitt Romneys blandness is a plus because he exudes grace under pressure. He gets flustered. But he grins and bears it. This will serve him well in a very ugly campaign, perhaps the ugliest since 1800. We know after 4 years of watching President Obama that he is extremely vulnerable under pressure. He cracks. His temper tantrum against the Supreme Court showed how intellectually empty he is. My goodness, it is unprecedented to have justices turn down a law? Talk about acting stupidly. The pressure must be applied carefully and consistently.

I do remember 1994. I’m not reading the liberal media. I wasn’t all that happy about voting for Mitt even then. He was too wishy washy. It was a conservative year in which the republican governor in MA won with 70% of the vote. But Mitt wanted nothing to do with the conservatives and was beaten.
Unfortunately, Mitt’s being pushed on us. I won’t vote for him but I hope he wins over Obama. The only thing for us to do once he’s nominated is work to elect as conservative a congress as possible. He can’t sign liberal bills if they never get to him. He’ll have to be pulled to the right whether he likes it or not. He’s a go along to get along type. As governor, he signed liberal bills and appointed democrats. As president, let’s force him to sign conservative bills and appoint conservatives.
I don’t like the hand we’ve been dealt but the powers that be have pulled all the stops. But we’ve learned their tricks.
Watch out what you wish for.
If it's O vs R, my vote -- my ONLY REAL TOOL in the system, goes third-party with hopes Obama squeaks past on a tiny plurality, as a weak, bitterly opposed figure -- or BETTER, that an alternative 3rd party candidate chuck "conventional wisdom" and TAKE A CHANCE, because there are probably going to be more than usual "protest" votes going ABOOR in any case. Risk is the price you pay for opportunity.
As long as we stay a righteous nation, God may smile on us. When we have people who know better voting for an agent of bad government and moral malaise like Romney, because they were so afraid of Obama, and their bad guy wins ....? Making a deal with the devil is loser territory.
I'll pass that deal. I hope America passes that deal -- maybe then God will smile and work a miracle. But as long as people who know better are busy empowering a guy who's done what Romney's done, God's gotta be just shaking His head in disappointment.
A point well worth heeding.
So, you didn't mean the above after all?
I was talking about the 1994 Republican Revolution lead by Newt, not anything to do with Mitt. Never mind.
Truer words were never spoken. People like Romney let liberals and Progs (neo-Stalinists) continue their lie that history is a constant ratcheting to the Left, that all human "progress" leads to Stalinism.
Only if our side stops Romney and puts a real conservative at the helm.
Otherwise ...... bug, meet windshield.
This is very true. As you know, we in Texas (other FReepers may not know) have a 2:1 GOP majority in the Texas house of representatives, and we have a GOP majority in the state senate. Nevertheless, the speaker of the Texas house is a liberal RiNO from San Antonio who was elected and re-elected by a straight-line vote of the Democrats and a fraction of the nominal Republicans -- he is, in essence, a Democratic speaker, except that he gives insurance companies and banks what they want.
This is what a Romney presidency would play out as, almost zig for zig and zag for zag. It was what McLame was trying to put together with his infamous "maverick" senatorial faction, the Gang of 14. They tried to seize power by creating a swing bloc that would force numerous interest groups and both parties to come grovelling to them.
“I dont like the hand weve been dealt but the powers that be have pulled all the stops. But weve learned their tricks.”
And also, they’ve had to expose themselves somewhat this cycle- massive efforts to defeat the conservatives tend to do that.
LOL -- yeah, sure. Keep dreaming, Mittbots.
“SURVIVED EISENHOWER??????
All we had was one big fat post war boom, and all the illegals went home!”
Well, FWIW, Mitt’s a fan of Eisenhower.
Yeah, we could use a boom right about now.
Romney is no great conservative, to be sure; but he will be a far stronger a candidate than McCain ever was.
Two factors that are under estimated: One, the Mormon Church is about as rich as the Catholic church, and that is about as wealthy as it gets. Money will not be a limiting factor despite Obama's foreign billion dollars.
Two, if he unleashes his SuperPac from Hell to do to Obama what they did to Newt, we will all need a fallout shelter before it's over.
Yeah, I'm voting for whomever runs against the Usurper, including Romney. Those who claim they can see no difference between Romney and Obama are willfully blind, out of juvenile ignorance. "There are none so blind as those who will not see."
You should remain calm because all your hysterical huffing and puffing will make not a whit of difference. Why waste your energy on nothing.
FR has a lot of A-H bigots and other losers who aren't anything useful but just think they are conservative.
Romney will absolutely NOT GET my vote either. NOT NO BUT HELL
NO!!!! Congress and senate are my main concern at this point GOP-E
can NOT expect me to fall in line any longer I WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN,!!!
As Blacks might say, "I'm sensitive to republicans' lack of interest in my issues and if you notice, they don't even try to reach out to us." The Nixon solution and many Freeper's was and has been till today, "They won't vote for me anyway so F* them."
It worked, sort of. Romney may be saying, "you won't vote for me anyway so F* you, "conservatives."
Get it children?
I grew up in the fifties and would give anything if my kids could have had that experience.
Emerich Vattel does not make US laws.
Projection, FRiend.
