What's in the ad?
The clip features Blige standing on a table in a Burger King restaurant surrounded by flashing disco lights singing about its new chicken wraps, which are part of a healthier new menu the chain is rolling out. Adapting her popular song "Don't Mind" to new lyrics, she belts out the wrap's ingredients: "Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing wrapped in a tasty, flour tortilla."
How is that racist?
The product at the center of the clip — fried chicken — "comes peppered and seasoned with all sorts of racist connotations," says Kenneth Partridge at TheBoomBox. And even if the connection was unintentional, the sight of a "black woman espousing the virtues of fried chicken is never a pleasant thing to behold," says Rich Juzwiak at Gawker.

One story is a coroner’s inquest is called to examine a negro woman who might be dead in bed. No one wants to touch her, so one of the men decided they would cook up some fried chicken and pass it in front of her nose. Since no black person could pass up some fried chicken, if she failed to try and grab a piece she would have to be dead.

ROFLMAO - as a *white & female* blues/jazz singer you’ve got me rolling on the floor! WHO KNEW, RIGHT??? I’m half expecting that when I (finally) get my Original Birth Certificate that it’s going to say either my mom or dad was black! ;)
This racial animosity BS is all so friggin’ STUPID! It’s got me really down lately, frankly. I thought when my Generation (born in the early 70s) were all grown up we’d be rid of all of this - how has it gotten WORSE? And how did people all fall for the hustlers? I’m disappointed in my fellow human beings for absolutely not understanding ANYTHING MLK, Jr. stood for.
In all seriousness though - who ARE these people who continually see racism in things that are COMMON to ALL AMERICANS??? (or at least those with some connection to the South - grits, cornbread, fried chicken were all regular foods in my home even up in Chicago, and it had been a few generations already since my extended family left the South.)
Anyway... Good luck on the harp playing - my Dad got me one when I was little and I never did figure it out! Check and see if in your area they have open mic/jam nights - even if you’re nowhere near performing yet, talking to folks who play could give you some valuable tips!

Here in middle TN, the commercials for Popeye’s Fried Chicken features a black woman.
My daughter and I are REALLY, REALLY hoping that the new restaurant opening up is owned by one of the new black families that have moved to our town over the last year or so! The name will be “Down Home Cafe - real Home Cookin’” and if it’s NOT owned by a fantastic black female chef I’m going to be VERY disappointed!!! :)
Is it a “White-Tortilla”?
Ok, so, without going into any details, let me just tell this TRUE story.
In a holding cell in NYC many, many years ago I heard a sister inmate say: We we just sitting in the car, eating fried chicken. How was I supposed to know the car was stolen?!
I am glad I made you laugh.
Although I was brought up on the 50’s, we share the same concerns and disappointment on the race garbage. I am sure that I occasionally sound racist, but I just don’t pull punches anymore and I am no longer interested in the pity party that some folks seem to love.
I have ALWAYS loved Blues. When I hear music, if there is a harp being played, that is all I hear. I should have started this a couple of decades ago, but I am a beginner, so I won’t be jamming for awhile. LOL I am still trying to figure out how to bend the notes... but I will.
While I would love to turn out good enough to play for others, I mostly want to sit on my mountain with my dog.... and harp the hours away. I know that sounds nuts to some, but I just love it that much.
I just bought two new harps, Hohner Marine Band Crossovers, C and A. Once I am convinced that I am capable, I’ll buy the rest of the keys, a mic, an amp and, and, and.... LOL

Yes, but a Watermelon slice would be much 'healthier' and more in line with Madame Obama's food obsession than fried chicken.
