Anyone with even half a brain knows we consume way too much sugar. But something the body needs to survive needs to be put in the same category as tobacco? The body doesn't require nicotine and the hundreds of other poisons in tobacco to survive.

60 Minutes went over the edge a long, long time ago but the morons still enjoy it.

I think the politicians and the newsmedia are having a contest to see who can be the all time champion idiot.

So far, they're purt'near in a dead heat.

This brings to mind Rush Limbaugh’s exposé of carrots. He noted that Lee Harvey Oswald, Charles Manson, and Al Capone ate carrots at one time or another and that ninety percent or more of all who ate carrots in 1918 are dead.

You do not need refined sugar to survive. It is an extract of a tropicla plant and not a whole food. Your body must pull out mineral reserves to digest it properly, which is a reason many sugar addicts have rotting teeth.

Everything is bad and is going to kill you. I would recommend that liberals stop eating all that hormone laden beef and milk products, those awful, terrible genetically modified veggies and while they are at it they should stop breathing all that polluted air and drinking that contaminated water.

Six months ago my blood glucose level was getting too high,,,close to pre-diabetic levels. The normal range (at my clinic) is 70-100. My level was 98. Sometimes I go on sugar binges,,,lots of pastries, etc. So I started watching what I was eating, and my latest test last month I got my glucose down to 74.

The death is in the dose. If you shove a gazillion twinkies into your mouth, your lifespan will decrease in proportion. Duh!

“New research coming out of some of America’s most respected institutions is starting to find that sugar, the way many people are eating it today, is a toxin,” Gupta said at the start of the segment.

Whatever anyone might think of this information, it is certainly nothing new. Many have viewed refined sugar as a toxin for decades and a best selling book made that case in 1975:

Sugar Blues

Amazon says the book was published in 1986, but it was 1975 or sooner.

Can’t you see the hand writing on the wall? They are getting ready to regulate everything. Last couple of years they have been picking on salt and butter Sugar is obviously the next ‘threat’ to civilization.

Sanjay Gupta is a moron.

There.

I think we should start with the premise that they are wrong and work our way along from there. Oxygen and water are also toxic in the right quantities.

Sugar from fruit (fructose) is good for you in moderation, since the body needs it. Refined sugar (surcose) can be problematic, especially if the intake is high.

As with anything, moderation is key. Sedentary lifestyles are more the problem than sugar. If the engine is hot enough it will burn anything. I punish my body at the gym and punish my liver with booze which of course breaks down to sugar.

Put another way, if I can quote the 60 min types, keep your laws off my body. I’ll take care of myself.

“Ultimately, this is a public health crisis, and when there’s a public health crisis you have to do big things and you have to do them across the board. Tobacco and alcohol are perfect examples … I think that sugar belongs in this exact same wastebasket,” said Lustig.

Yet quoting from the same...ahem...experts, research indicates that obese people live longer than normal or underweight people.

And after the age of 55 you statistaclly had a much higher mortality rate if your cholesterol was in the “ normal” range as opposed to those who suffer from higher cholesterol.

And statistically your chance of dying from lung cancer was much greater if you drank milk every day then if you smoked.

Which brings up the famous line of Charley Brown to Lucy “ Tell your statistics to shut up”

Dear Chessplayer:

A lot of the syndromes popping up today are related to sugar and yeast.

Too much sugar in a lot of what we consume (more, certainly, than God intended). Fast-acting yeast is a problem, too.

For folks like me with Systemic Candidas (originally misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia), sugar/yeast causes all sorts of nasty, debilitating problems.

That being said, Big Daddy FedGov doesn't need to get into our diets.
