As the Trayvon Martin controversy splinters into a debate about self-defense, a central question remains: Who was heard crying for help on a 911 call in the moments before the teen was shot?
A leading expert in the field of forensic voice identification sought to answer that question by analyzing the recordings for the Orlando Sentinel.
His result: It was not George Zimmerman who called for help.

Now the lawsuits, lawyers, and patents on Trayvon’s name take over....I predict the parents become millionaires over their son’s death....small price to pay for rotten parenting, eh?
Correct
This is troubling to many.
State Attorney Wolfinger's presence would be unusual. On a typical case, police contact the state attorney's office and speak with an on-duty assistant state attorney; they either discuss the matter by phone or the on-duty assistant state attorney comes to the crime scene. Investigators spoke to the on-duty assistant state attorney who did not come to the scene -- but Wolfinger did.
Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee, along with Capt. Robert O'Connor, made the decision to release George Zimmerman after consulting with State Attorney Norman Wolfinger -- in person. After a conversation between Lee, O'Connor and Wolfinger, the decision was made to "cut Zimmerman loose".
Homicide investigator Chris Serino filed an affidavit stating that he did not believe Zimmerman's account of the shooting. He recommended charging the 28-year-old with manslaughter, but was advised by Wolfinger's office that there wasn't enough evidence to secure a conviction. Zimmerman was subsequently released.
If true, the account may explain why Wolfinger recused himself from the case, on the same day Lee announced he was stepping aside.
This entire thing could be a many layered morality play.
Just about every moral lesson that needs to be learned is in it somewhere.
George Zimmerman's crumbling story, part 3: the detective - PostPartisan - The Washington Post - Jonathan Capehart - March 29, 2012
Wolfinger told Serino that he didn't think there was enough evidence to charge Zimmerman. According to ABC News, Serino then filed an affidavit the night of Feb. 26 stating he didn't believe Zimmerman. And we are now finding out that Serino then set out to bring the neighborhood watch volunteer to justice. In an interview with the Rev. Al Sharpton and later with Lawrence O'Donnell, Cheryl Brown, the mother of a 13-year-old eyewitness said that Serino told her that he didn't believe Zimmerman's self-defense claim.
[Serino] told me that he and the other officer with him felt that it was not self-defense and that they needed to prove it wasn't self-defense. And he said that I needed to read between the line because there was some stereotyping going on.... I took it to mean that he felt that George Zimmerman committed this crime based on whether it's stereotyping or racial profiling or whatever you want to call it. But those were his words. Stereotyping.Serino was the one who recounted Zimmerman's version of events for Tracy Martin, Trayvon's father. Martin told us in a meeting yesterday at The Post that he asked Serino if a background check was done on Zimmerman. Yes, one was, he was told, and he was "squeaky clean." But Martin had another question. "By Zimmerman being 'squeaky clean,' " he wanted to know, "did that give him the right to shoot and kill my son?" What Martin said Serino said next fits an emerging pattern. "[H]e said it certainly didn't. That he was going to do everything that he could do to catch this guy in a lie."Despite being overruled by superiors, Serino, it appears, never gave up on trying to have Zimmerman arrested. He filed that affidavit hours before delivering the tragic news to Martin and said what he would try to do. And it wasn't until March 5 that he would pay the 13-year-old and his mother a visit.
A police detective told the father of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin that his son initiated two confrontations with the neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot him.Tracy Martin, describing the police version of events in a meeting Wednesday with Washington Post reporters and editors, said he did not believe the official account, which was conveyed to him two days after his 17-year-old son was killed Feb. 26. The detective's explanation, as relayed by Martin, largely coincides with recent news reports that George Zimmerman told investigators that he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense.
It goes on to describe a first encounter (again, this is Tracy's recollection or interpretation of what Serino said) where Trayvon comes to Zimmerman's car, and they exchange words there. But Zimmerman's call to dispatch doesn't contain any verbal exchange.
I would think, if there was a first exchange, that would have been the end of it, clearing things up in Zimmerman's mind. So, if Serino believes there had been a first exchange, I can see why he'd be suspicious of Zimmerman. I wonder if Serino, at the time he formed his opinion, had listened to Zimmerman's dialog with dispatch.
Yes, it is a multi layered morality play....with an uncertain ending.
I want that affidavit.
lol
What FACTS? The 'media' facts?
Prosecuted for what? Defending yourself is a crime? He has to prove he was defending himself where any slime of a lawyer or prosecutor can twist it or cause doubt for the jury? When it has nothing to do with TRUTH but the best slime being able to twist truth. They already tainted any possible jury.
Now, is he guilty? Beats me.
It shouldn't.
Anyone of us could be Zimmerman in the future - so you, specifically, remember what either was like before the incident, etc is meaningless. Then when a thief, druggie, rapists, pedophilia - whatever, and you are charged for their crime, you would have whatever you were before mean nothing. You are now equal and probably worse because you are on trial.
What minor is that? The one in the picture who about 10 years old? Or the one who was suspended from school? The one with drug paraphernalia, putting graffiti on lockers, having all sorts of women's jewelry in his bag along with a tool and who is pictured with gold teeth. Did he lose his baby teeth and waiting for his adult teeth to grow in? Which minor are you addressing?
and all I can conclude that if it isnt your children, other children are fair game.
I'm concerned mine being fair game as in wanted 'dead or alive Zimmerman' from a lynch mob - he is someone's child, also. Hearing about his goodness to other people, his community - he could be mine. Which one could be yours?
Exactly! Wonder if this guy is young and a little too ambitious for his career sake.
The Events Leading to the Shooting of Trayvon Martin - NYTimes - April 1, 2012
Mary Cutcher, a resident near the scene who called 911, said Mr. Zimmerman did not appear to be hurt or wounded. "He was never wiping his face or cleaning," she said. "If he had a broken nose, I would've seen it." Police have said that Ms. Cutcher's sworn testimony differed from what she has said later.
What is known, what isn't about Trayvon Martin's death - Miami Herald - Frances Robles - March 31, 2012
Police stressed that Zimmerman was interviewed at least three times and gave a videotaped statement and a walk-through of what happened. Zimmerman, whose father is a retired Virginia magistrate, never asked for an attorney or changed his story, former Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee said. ...Another caller, Mora's roommate, Mary Cutcher, phoned police after the gunshot and said the black man was standing over another man, which would have been impossible, because Trayvon was already dead.
Cutcher later blasted the Sanford police, saying detectives did not return her phone calls because she clearly believed that the person crying was the boy, and that was not the story investigators were looking for. Police issued a news release saying she had given an "inconsistent statement." ...
... Police said Zimmerman provided medical records to support evidence of his injuries.
In an interview two weeks after the incident, Lee said witness statements and physical evidence backed up Zimmerman's version of events. He suggested that based on the timing of the call, he believed that Trayvon went out of his way to approach the person tailing him and mouth off.
"If Trayvon has made it that far, and Zimmerman is getting out of his truck, why doesn't Trayvon keep walking?" Lee said. "He's 70 yards from his house. I think based on the timing of the call and Zimmerman losing sight of him, that he had made it to that 'T' [at the end of the path] and was starting to walk towards his house.
"My wish is that he would have kept walking."
Nice comeback. Brilliant analysis.....
Trayvon Martin: Woman gave 'inconsistent' statement on TV, Sanford PD says - OrlandoSentinel.com - Jeff Weiner - March 15, 2012
Mary Cutcher, a witnesses to the shooting, told WFTV-Channel 9 in a Wednesday report that police took only a short statement from her, despite repeated attempts to share what she saw at length.Calling Alice in Wonderland, Alice in Wonderland, to the white courtesy phone please."I said, 'I know this was not self-defense. There was no punching, no hitting going on at the time, no wrestling,'" Cutcher said, adding that she felt the police investigating the shooting "blew us off." ...
Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Morgenstern on Thursday issued a statement disputing Cutcher's version of events, calling her statements to WFTV "inconsistent with her sworn testimony to police."
"Actually officers who were canvassing the neighborhood looking for potential witnesses, the evening of the shooting, contacted her and she said she did not want to get involved," Morgenstern said.
Cutcher also appeared on CNN after her interview with the Orlando station.
"She did write a statement, for her roommate, and that was only after several attempts by officers who were asking for her information," Morgenstern said, adding that "the information she provided in her sworn statements... [was] consistent with the information Zimmerman provided."
how does any one know what zimmerman sounds like?
Recordings released by Sanford police include a call made to them, by Zimmerman; and also include the 911 calls from witnesses where screaming is heard in the background.
ok
Am I correct in asserting that what Cutcher claimed she saw occurred after the gunshot? It was her account in an article I read about a week ago.
