One can imagine the chat the GOP establishment, led by McCain, McConnell and Jeb Bush, just had with young Rubio (in the tenor of Foghorn Leghorn):
“You gotta lotta talent boy. You’re young but you got spunk. With our help you can go places in this town. But you gotta learn to play ball. Be part of the team. See the big picture. Look at me while I’m talking to you boy. Sure Romney’s an empty suit, but he’s our empty suit. He won’t win in 2012. We know that. And when he goes down this fall you’ll be in a great position for 2016. You’ll be our boy, but we need you to take one for the team in 2012. You play ball with us in 2012 you’ll be our star in 2016. Now be a good boy and endorse Romney so we can be done with this meaningless Presidential primary and focus on the Senate elections. Glad to have you on our team boy.”
