My basic question is: What was Trayvon doing in the gated community where he was shot?
Was he cutting through the neighborhood on his way home? He was obviously on foot ... where's the proximity to his house?
Was he on his way to visit friends? Surely, you would have thought one of his friends would have come forward to say he had just spoke to him on his cell phone and he would be over shortly.
Was he on his way to purchase 'weed' or hook up with somebody? (as 90% of his tweets either extoll the virtues of weed or refer to his desire to ####)
Where was he coming from?
Have you read the police reports, listened to the 911 calls, read the interviews of the witnesses?
We try to do all before we comment on someone else’s post who has done all of the above.
Please do the same. It saves a lot of misunderstandings....
FR has rules against calling people “racists”, please follow them
Which was pled down as Zimmerman was clean. They also listed on that "rap sheet" of three charges in his lifetime - a speeding ticket. If only they were that thorough on Trayvon.
Zimmerman had been doing this neighborhood watch thing for 7 years. A review of his reports reveals nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing that supports the rumors of him being the local Democrat Watch Nazi.
If he was anything close to what the stories have been said about him the Sanford PD would have done what they could to get him off his neighborhood watch program long ago.
I also keep seeing the '200+ pounds' on threads. I don't know where that comes from, unless people are looking at the photo of Martin and making a guess. The police officer who saw his body, not a photo, and estimated his weight guessed that he weighed 160 pounds. Martin's nickname (which he may have outgrown) was "Slimm."
Granted, the officer was off on his height (the body was on the ground), but I'll take the guess of an officer who saw him in person over someone who saw him in a photo any day.
That quote has been greatly misconstrued. It comes from the first report, by local news, on the day after the shooting - the day the father had first learned about it. The news report attributes it to "his mother, Tracy Martin," although Tracy Martin is the father. "He was just sitting on the porch" was the last part of a long quote about how "he just went to the store, why is he dead" etc. The impression I got was that it was just an emotional statement about how he couldn't believe his son was dead. In other words, "he was just (yesterday) sitting on the porch, and now he's gone." Not "he was shot while sitting on the porch."
The parents have never, to my knowledge, portrayed themselves as witnesses to anything. The father has clearly stated that he was not home when the shooting occurred. And to be honest, I think it was a little ghoulish of the local media to jump on the guy for an interview right after he got back from identifying the body. But nobody has ever claimed Trayvon Martin was shot on a porch.
There are two convenience stores to the north of the neighborhood where Martin’s body was found, but I doubt they get much neighborhood walk-up trade. Coming from that neighborhood, such a trip requires crossing at least two heavily traveled, multiple lane roads. It may be an short walk as to distance but cannot be thought of as a casual stroll.
Visiting his divorced father while on a ten-day suspension from school for being caught with a (mostly) empty bag of marijuana.
Was he cutting through the neighborhood on his way home? He was obviously on foot ... where's the proximity to his house?
The fatal fight occurred about 60 feet from the house where he was staying.
Was he on his way to visit friends? Surely, you would have thought one of his friends would have come forward to say he had just spoke to him on his cell phone and he would be over shortly.
He was on the phone with his girlfriend while walking home from the 7-Eleven where he had purchased Skittles and Coke. She says he told her he was being followed. She advised him to run. He said he wouldn't run, just walk fast. The call allegedly ended at 1912 just as words were being exchanged with the follower (presumably Zimmerman). The grand jury will have the exact timing from the cell company and the girl's testimony, such as it is.
Was he on his way to purchase 'weed' or hook up with somebody? (as 90% of his tweets either extoll the virtues of weed or refer to his desire to ####)
No such evidence.
Where was he coming from?
Well, he used this photo as his Twitter page background (deleted after he died, but fished from the Google cache):
That's the mugshot of rapper Corey Miller, aka C-Murder, who is doing life without parole for beating up and shooting to death 16-year-old Steve Thomas in 2002 at a night club in Harvey, Louisiana. Quite the role model for the up and coming wannabe gang banger, don't you think?
His Twitter account handle was NO_LIMIT_NIGGA. He listed his name as SLIMM, his location as YO HOE CRIB, and his favorite website as LIES.COM. Dude liked caps!
You can see the Google cache, dated Feb 6, 2012 12:29:45 GMT, here. (You will need to disable JavaScript to avoid being redirected to a blank Twitter page.)
My guess is, he was steamed that Zimmerman was following him. Zimmerman says Martin asked him, "You have a problem?" Zimmerman replied, "No." Then Martin attacked Zimmerman, knocking him to the ground. During the ensuing struggle, Zimmerman was losing until he managed to shoot Martin. There is evidence they were fighting over the gun: Only one round had been fired, and the next round in the clip was not chambered, indicating interference with the rechambering mechanism.
There are no witnesses to contradict Zimmerman's account. Therefore, the verdict must be Not Guilty, whatever you think of Zimmerman's judgement or animus. Oh, and screw you, Tutu!
Well, as far as you are concerned, I was obviously not there, there is no such thing as psychic ability, and I am a racist. That's your prejudice.
-- The truth is `bangers are by and large utter cowards who ONLY attack when they have numbers on their side, anything close to fair fight and they turn heel until they can gather up their posse and ambush their opponent --
Trayvon had the physical advantage, from the recorded 911 calls. Was able to wail on Zimmerman for better than half a minute. Sometimes a one on one is strongly in one sides favor.
Trayvon was a visitor in this particular community, FWIW. And I don't suspect he was a hard core gang banger like your clients were - just that he felt tough, maybe was feeling his oats. Not unusual in young male adults, and some grown ups too.
Do you think Zimmerman threw the first punch? Do you think Zimmerman wanted to be in contact distance with Martin?
Where did you hear he was liberal and Jewish?
Thx
I'm not following the details here. Sixteen year old friend of who? How did this person become an earwitness? Or are they a hearsay witness? And if they are a hearsay witness, whose story are they telling?
Here at FR, but apparently that is mostly wrong:
I heard he is a registered Democrat --whether that makes him liberal or not is up to debate.
I heard he was an altar-boy at some point, so I think his religion of choice (at one point, at least) is/was Catholicism.
From where does your understanding come? Your second photo is of a housing project in Watts.
If you'd like to know what the gated community in question looks like, why not take a spin around it and visit a town house only a couple of hundred feet from a far more famous (but vacated) unit?
She was Trayvon’s girlfriend and was on the phone with him. He told her he was being followed and she heard the conversation and beginning of the skuffle between them.
Earwitness. ABC checked into phone records and have the time they were in communication. The report earlier today had a comparison of that time with the 911 calls.
In the interview she said Trayvon verbally confronted Zimmerman with “why are you following me?” and Zimmerman answered with a question “what are you doing in this neighborhood” Then the skuffle began. XImmerman says that’s when he was punched.
Poor little Martin lived in the hood in Miami, he was visiting his father in Sanford..I recall one weekend in Miami when the coroner had to rent refrigerated trucks to hold all the corpses killed over the weekend...

“You want me to tell you the sad thing about being a wannabe?,” says Detective Aquiles Carmona, lecturing a kid who was flying a black bandanna from the pocket of his low-hanging jeans, riding his bike around Wynwood.
“You got the look, you got the talk, but then when you get confronted by a hard-core is when you get your ass whupped,” the veteran Miami Police gang unit cop said, as the 15-year-old boy’s mother arrives at the scene.
Thanks. My confusion was from those words being different from the ones that Zimmerman reports. Martin: “You got a problem?” Zimmerman: “No” Martin: “You do now, homey.” -commence beating-
A truck turns onto a section of road 230' long and proceeds down it at 30'/sec for some time before it stops.
A pedestrian walks down the road in the other direction for at least 22 seconds at 5'/sec before he reaches the truck.
What is the maximum time the truck driver could have seen the predestrian before he made the decision to stop?
Subtract 1 minute from that time.
Is the remaining time long enough for the truck driver to decide "This guy looks like he's up to no good"?
