There is nothing illegal about getting out of a vehicle to observe something. MAybe big sis with the see something say something fueled his passion. But, he was not WARNED. It was not even a lawful order.

He did get out and follow, fact no law was broken.
He was told to not follow, fact, he then turned around and headed back to his car, FACT,

Zimmerman left his truck to follow Martin when Martin ran (according to the transcripts of the phone call). Why? You’re asking me to speculate, but if you consider the fact that he had called police to report a suspicious Martin I would assume it was to maintain visual contact of Martin so that when the police got there they could question him. There is no evidence he confronted Martin (in fact Zimmerman even tells the dispatcher he lost sight of Martin).
