Previously, Jeff Zeleny’s biggest claim to fame was asking Barack Obama the hard-hitting question, “What has … enchanted you the most from serving in this office?” The question was so sycophantic that even Zeleny’s colleagues in the White House press corps laughed out loud when they heard it. The New York Times has Zeleny covering Rick Santorum’s campaign three years later, and suddenly Zeleny’s a lot less concerned about what enchants politicians … and less concerned about quoting them accurately, too. When Zeleny rewrote a statement from Santorum in a speech and then challenged him on it, Santorum got angry — and a little PG-13, too:

who cares about Romney. Rick Santorum did not flub, he cursed. That did not bother me, he just will not win.
I really don’t want Romney to win either. I am a Newt man, all the way.
Rick is a great man with a lot of upside, he is not a serious candidate to be President. He might win the nomination, but the election, no way.
Be careful friend the Rick people will be out to get you. How dare you question him. LOL.
Of course it was no fluke he lost. He loat by 17 bleeping points. No one else even got close to that record as an incumbent. Give me a break.
If Santorum can win the nomination, he can win. Ditto, Romney. Newt has made too many enemies.so he is viewed somewhat as TR was by the Republicans in 1916.
Palin is a natural politician. Has the popular touch but also sees what the leading issues are. Her problem is, partly, that probably half the leadership of her party is liberal, of the same mind as someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison, who probably wanted, expected Romney to choose her as VP in 2008.
Rick Santorum would lose the general by double digits. He is not a serious contender. Period
If he is repudiated by the Republican Establishment. My problem with Romney is that he reminds me of Wilkie. The differences between Wilkie and FDR were minimal. Wilkie won more votes than had any previous Republican , but his only issue was the Third Term. What decided that election was the Fall of France followed by the Battle of Britain. Wilkie was nominated because he was an acceptable version of FDR and Taft was not.
