Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot.

This troubles me. Sorry, it just does. jmo.

Until a full inquiry and its results are released, this will be bubbling away for awhile.

So following somebody is a crime in FL?

This doesn’t trouble me in the least. Until your neighborhood has had several burglaries, don’t be so quick to judge. Our residents routinely stop to “chat” with strangers to our neighborhood now and jot down tag numbers of those vehicles which do not belong. We haven’t been victimized in over three years now. Coincidence?

Norm, we don’t always agree but Zim was in pursuit and he did say on that one tape to police: “They always get away.” I believe Zim was in a state of mind where he was tired of “them” getting away and this time, it wasn’t gonna happen on his watch. The intent was not initially to shoot Trayvon but if someone carries, they need to carry responsibly which Zim failed to do. Crime Watch volunteers are NOT supposed to carry a weapon. They are supposed to call the cops who have tazers which are killin’ their own share of Floridians I might add.

If he got out to chase or confront Martin, that could certainly be a factor. But simply getting out to follow him doesn’t bother me.

Yes, but bear a few things in mind. He was on the phone with 911, had requested police assistance, given them his cell number for the police to call when he got there, and was expecting them at any minute. He didn't necessarily get out to stalk or confront Martin. It's more likely that he wanted to keep him in view until the cops got there. Martin originally, upon seeing Zimmerman, turned and walked in his direction, before turning away. That's confrontational, and it makes sense that he might have repeated the gesture a minute or so later, when both were in the alleyway, out of sight.

Maybe post#66 can shed some light for you.

"Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot......This troubles me."

Really? What do you expect a Neighborhood Watch volunteer to do...watch someone who obviously is not from the area from his car, then quit watching if he is no longer visible from the vehicle?

That sorta defeats the concept of the program, does it not?

Is following someone on the street a crime? I would have done the same thing.

If it is, please show me the statute.

Yes, that part does look bad. If a white person was walking in a black neighborhood, and a black guy started following him and demanding to know what he was doing there, would that be ok with FReepers? I doubt it.
