How this guy got as far as he did still amazes me.
It amazes me too, because somebody has to rush forward and explain what Santorum “really meant” just about every time he opens his mouth.
But people aren’t listening to what he or any of the candidates are really saying. They’re voting for an image. Although Santorum is arguably the most politically connected insider of all of the candidates, including Romney, he has successfully projected the image of an innocent, unsophisticated, working class altar boy who just wants to be a dad, somehow has no work history worth discussing, and is untouched by the crude realities of politics. All of these things are the complete opposite of the reality of Santorum, of course, but somehow, that’s what the voters see. Just a “nice young man,” struggling to get ahead, and I think they honestly don’t care what he says, which is why they always explain it away.
BTW, he already made a stupid comment about this case earlier last week, and you’d think if nothing else, he’d have given it some thought and be smarter than to go back to it again and make his comments even worse.
