The attorney hired to represent a neighborhood watch volunteer accused of fatally shooting a black teenager said there was no racial issue involved...

Sonner also said that Zimmerman and his wife in the past have served as mentors to African-American youth. "He and his wife were mentors to a single mother with two, a 14-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter.

Tell ya what, Norm, I’d trust this guy’s attorney over Al Sharpton, Frederica Wilson, and the New Black Panther party ANY day of the week.

Not to mention Sanford’s city manager, Mr. Bonaparte, a black man who is standing by the police report...I hope HE doesn’t cave.

This is the irony of the times we live in.. I hear you about jumping to conclusions.

It deserves a full and open and fair review , imho let a grand jury decide if a person guarding the neighborhood in a quasigovernmental role is then authorized to create a situation when being advised to not pursue a “suspicious” person in his proximity and subsequently executes a plan of action or reaction that leads to the death of the perceived ‘threat’.

Let this grind thru the process. Would that so many would not seek to use it for their own purposes and exploitation.

Now that the race card players have screamed bloody murder, there is no choice but to go the Grand Jury route.

I would be inclined to just accept the initial investigation by police, unless there were a good reason for not doing so, and let Mr. Zimmerman’s wounds heal.

This happened at the end of February, mind you, and the Al Sharpton crowd just now got agitated over it. Why? Well, I submit it is for political reasons.

Interesting , what you have to say about capital crime procedure. Corey was interviewed on CNN TV and stated that no grand jury would need to be empanelled.

This is an interesting point.Having no grand jury makes it so that politics will play a far more comprehensive role in bringing Zimmerman to trial. A grand jury would not likely indict, and they would have to grand jury shop, a technique that the fascist left of Texas used sucessfully in falsely prosecuting Tom Delay.

Any prosecution of Zimmerman has huge obstacles to overcome, and the best they could remotely hope for, given what we now know about the facts, is a manslaughter conviction ( i.e. that he used too much force to defend himself, given the threat and fear, but it is not an objective standard either, but in the mind of the defender. It seems Zimmerman took quite a beating before he acted.)

This is pure Obama politics, and it should be portrayed as such.Obama has NO PLACE in skewing the administration of justice against Zimmerman. Horrible for a president to sink so low.It is a measure of how much Obama fears his electoral prospects. It is also a measure of how much RINOs fear a racial backlash. Let them bring it!

Mentoring was just cover for his racism. /s

I agree with several of the comments here and with Newt's statement on Obama. Zimmerman will have extreme difficultly getting a fair trial if he's indicted for political purposes. The reaction is mob mentality. Obama had a opportunity to rise above the outrage and show leadership. He chose to not just pander but electioneer. Despicable.

When he says "all Americans" need soul searching, that's racist code for "non-black people are bigots." The ones who need soul searching at the ones who jump to conclusions, cause strife and division because of their biases and bigotry rather than follow the facts.

You’’re accepting a racial characterization, when in fact the only uniting characteristic is language.

There are Hispanics who are entirely of European extraction. For example, the proudly Castillian of Cuba, the Old Spanish ruling class of New Mexico, etc.

Then, you have the Mestizo people, mixed race, native “Indian” and European. Brown people with European surnames.

And then again, there are Hispanics of African ancestry, or mixed, with either native “Indian,” European, or both.

The “white” Hispanics actually are white, being wholly European. They look down upon the Mestizo. The Meztizo are lighter than either the purely native Central Americans or those Spanish speaking people of African ancestry such as Cubans or Puerto Ricans, those who are not Castillian at least.

It's an entirely fictional construct. They're no more a united, distinct racial group than English speakers are.

The shooter, Zimmerman, appears Central American, being stocky, not particularly tall, and brown. He'd be on the next to the bottom rung of the Hispanic pecking order, if it weren’t for the surname, and I believe that might even belong to his godfather, not bis biological father.

This was not a white on black shooting, no matter how you spin it.

Norm, 911 dispatchers have no police powers at all. They can’t order citizens to do anything. That is irrelevant to the case legally. The only legal question at issue is who was the aggressor. If Zimmerman was not the physical aggressor he is well within the law shooting Martin while being beaten and screaming for help. Which never came btw. Good neighbors and all.

If he was the physical aggressor then he’ll go to jail but the state has to prove that, they can’t just feel it. Based on the lack of an arrest that evidence will not be forth coming.

A witness confirms that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman as Zimmerman was walking back to his truck.

Was he ‘deputized’ by local police to patrol? I thought you had to go to meetings to setup a Neighborhood watch like this.. be a member of a recognized group? Is there a limit to what weapon they can carry, what about training, do they wear a uniform to make them more recognizable to any police who might be sent where they report something?
regardless, It’s a harsh lesson for ‘self-policing’ and the state of affairs in Florida too if we’re left with this as justice and don’t learn from it.. jmo

Those questions are irrelevant to whether a crime was committed. Tough cases make bad law. I would hope that nobody here thinks that standing your ground and defending your life with a gun is not outside the bounds of either natural rights or the law though.

“But then, neither is Clarence Thomas, or Walter Williams, or Star Parker, or...”

You’re right; they’ve had their blackness suspended by the bestowers of black.

"Correct me if I’m wrong, but their skin color is their skin color...as for Race, I believe we are all HUMAN."

Spare me the liberal claptrap. Like it or not, races exist as reality. This is proven by the differences in their genomes. Now, UNDER THE LAW, we should indeed all be considered "human", and only that.

don’t get me wrong,, he may well have felt he was in fear for his life,, the fact he was out there is a sign in itself of the tension in that area.. he also may well have precipitated it coming to this.. I’m trying to believe no crime was committed too but the defense of your life argument when ya brought it on yourself over attire leaves a taste lacking.. I don’t know, still doesn’t pass the smell test for me.. I don’t pack so it’s not an issue for me personally and I don’t wear hoodies..

like the old shift sergeant on Hill Street blues.. he’d always send the officers off with a “Hey, Be careful out there!”..
