Your imagination is running wild. Zimmerman was on the ground with Martin pummeling his face. Zimmerman called for help and an eye witness told Martin to stop and that he was going to call 911. The witness disappeared to the safety of his own home and locked a sliding glass door behind himself. At that point Zimmerman had to choose between death by continued pummeling or pulling his gun. He did the latter and survived.

Zimmerman has a broken nose and lacerations on the back of his head. The back of his jacket was wet and covered with grass stains.

There was no "standing your ground" baloney here. This was a full on battery by Martin against Zimmerman. Zimmerman could not retreat because Martin was sitting on him and pounding his face with his fists.

If I was minding my own business and Zmmerman was chasing me and ultimately confronted me, there’s a possibility that I would have acted similarly. I’ll be curious to see how this pans out. By the way, Zimmerman was the first to raise the stand your ground defense, not me.

Yes, there is.

According to Florida law, you can't be held civilly liable, or even arrested for a justifiable use of deadly force.

The fact that Zimmerman was not arrested, pro forma, is a direct result of the stand your ground law.
