A group of Capitol Hill staffers gathered today on the U.S. Capitol steps to rally in support of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old unarmed boy gunned down in Sanford, Fla.
About 250 to 300 aides rallied this afternoon in support of "Hoodies on the Hill." Participants were encouraged to wear hooded sweatshirts in the 80 degree heat and to bring bags Skittles candy and iced tea, two items Martin was carrying when he was killed by a 28-year-old man as he walked back to his father's girlfriend's house.
"We have a mandate to ensure that young boys like Trayvon live their lives and that they're successful and that they have the opportunity we have today," said Brandon Andrews, a congressional staffer who said he was representing African American men on the Hill.
Senate Chaplain Barry Black, a retired commander in the Navy, led the group in prayer, invoking Martin Luther King, Jr. and telling the crowd of his own experiences with racial stereotyping.
"I don't have my hoodie, but I do have my skittles," Black said, dressed characteristically in a white shirt and bowtie. "This is a great tragedy and I guess one of the positive aspects of this is it has awakened in so many, across all racial lines and awareness, that we need to do more to 'cause justice to roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.'"

This is getting ridiculous.
This tragedy is obviously and shamelessly being exploited for political purposes.
Meanwhile while your country is swirling in the bowl.
Oh well - pay your taxes. These people really need the money. :)
1. There are a cubic ton of people whom are going to look very stupid if it turns out that this Hispanic (with black family members, via AP article) was actually defending himself.
2. This is all a “twofer” setup by the White House and the media to prevent the news about Obama’s friend and political ally, Corzine, making the evening news cycles. And also to continue to stir up race hatred as we go into the “rioting” season.
This is getting nuts! The media is fueling the whole situation and pouring large amounts of gasoline on the fire!
You talkin' to me?
LOL
Remember Christopher Newsome and Channon Christian?
Thought not!
They were the white teenage couple in Knoxville kidnapped, raped, tortured and killed by three blacks in 2007.
You didn’t see any demonstrations on their behalf. You certainly didn’t see a “hoodie” parade. This was a squelched story by the main stream media for fear of massive race riots.
Here’s what had happened to them, according to WIKI:
According to the testimony of the Knox County Acting Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan at the subsequent trial of Eric Boyd, Newsom was repeatedly sodomized with an object and then blindfolded, gagged, arms and feet bound and his head covered. Barefoot, he was either led or dragged outside the house to a set of nearby railroad tracks. He was shot in the back of the head, the neck, and the back, and his body then set on fire.
Channon’s death came only after hours of sexual torture, medical examiner Mileusnic-Polchan testified. Channon suffered horrific injuries to her vagina, anus and mouth. She was not only raped but savaged with “an object,” possibly a broken chair leg, the doctor testified. She was beaten in the head. Some type of chemical was poured down her throat, and her body, including her bleeding and battered genital area, likely scrubbed with the same solution - all while Channon was alive, the forensic expert said. She was then “hog-tied,” with curtains and strips of bedding, her face covered tightly with a small trash bag and her body stashed inside five large trash bags before being placed inside a large trash can and covered with sheets. Channon died slowly, suffocating, the medical examiner said.
The perps were granted new trials last December because of judicial misconduct.
Before we get sobby about Trayvon Martin, better review the Knoxville outrages.
Never bring skittles to a gun fight
What does their case have to do with anything regarding this?
Neither collective salvation nor collective guilt are conservative values. Just the action of the individuals involved (thus my comment about people knee jerking on both sides of this).
Someone should ask them "Where is your gas can?"
Seriously, looks like the MSM, opportunistic politicians and race agitators are all trying to get the summer race riots off to an early start.
I remember and most freezers do as well makes me furious
My freezer does not remember.
You may be right, but I think this incident is being ginned up primarily for another purpose. Already some legislators are calling for stricter gun laws and the "stand your ground" laws are at risk. Holder has already stated he is "brain washing" the public. Racism gives the news legs, but the end game is guns. I look to see the MSM state the evidence is inconclusive, but the presence of the gun led to escalation. Oh if only no one was carrying a gun, both would still be alive. Riots will provide the narrative that guns caused racial upheaval and how Florida's" liberal gun laws" allowed this tragedy to happen. Nancy Pelosi will bring new federal legislation for background checks and waiting regulations to prevent such a tragedy in the future; in order to help all the races just get along.
Guess they ALL want to look like the Unabomber.
LMAO, good one and so true!!
“What does their case have to do with anything regarding this?”
What their case has to do with it is that there is horrendous black on white crime happening in the country that is either under reported or not reported.
But every time a black person stumps their toe it is trumpeted to the high heavens as an an example of heinous racism.
Nothing strange about it sadly, just the wrong color.
It’s always the whiny season for blacks, everyone else is irrelevant.
American morons.
