As someone who supports Rick Santorum for President, and who will caucus tomorrow in the next phase of Minnesotas political process as a delegate, I understand the need to replace Barack Obama in 2012 in order to right the American ship of state and address the serious problems that Obama has either created, amplified, or ignored over the last three years. I do, however, wonder whether Senator Santorum understands that need. Yesterday, as Allahpundit noted with excellent analysis, Santorum told a Louisiana audience that if Mitt Romney won the nomination, wed be better off sticking with what weve already got:
You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone whos just going to be a little different than the person in there. If youre going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future, Santorum told a crowd at USAA.
Er, no, we wouldnt be better off with Obama than with Romney, for many reasons. Before we get to those reasons, lets note that Newt Gingrich, at least, does get this right:

I would expect no less of a headline from Drudge these days.
Rick has stepped into the dark side.
He needs to go away.
Romney - Obama = Both ineligible
Romney - Obama = Both for ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE
Romney - Obama = Both with Soros
Romney - Obama = Both for IAG
Romney - Obama = Both lie when necessary
Romney - Obama = Both attack Gov. Palin and her children.
Romney - Obama = Both ruined the economies of what they should not have
Romney - Obama = Both pi$$ed on a Constitution when they could.
It's almost comical to see the Newt crowd just gloat over this gaffe. They would rather a true liberal get the nod, than a man who has been bashed for years by the left as being too conservative. Admittedly, his conservative credentials aren't perfect, but he's the only one with a shot at derailing Romney and the Newtbots couldn't care less. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. At least Drudge, being totally in the tank for Romney has an excuse.
Rick may be right.
If Obama stays in office the fallout from his socialistic disaster can be laid at the feet of the Democrats.
If we elect Romney, (and he continues the socialistic policies) we will own the disaster.
Etch a Sketch just hit the campaign trail for the year because you know Obama will use it , too.
their stock price rose to a high 12.50..biggest rise ever in 30 years
but I do find this funny from the guy who mentioned them:
“”Etch A Sketch stock is up? Psst, I’ll mention Mr. Potato Head next. Buy Hasbro,” he tweeted with a link to a National Journal story about the stock jump.”
Both are strong abortion advocates, both favor strong gun control, both favor radical homosexual agenda... Romney has better hair, but that’s the only difference I can come up with.
We are on the brink folks.
This is not a game, we might not be able to undo this mess, in 4 years.
Newt was my favorite, but the only think Newt can do for us, at this point, is protect the Party Platform and help to push Romney to the right.
Did that help the anti-Communist Russians, in any way?
I do not trust Romney to be a true Conservative.
However, I do not believe that Romney is coldblooded tyrant.
I know that Obama IS a cold blooded tyrant.
First, he didn’t explicitly say “I’d vote for Obama over Romney”. What he was doing was saying what a lot of people here have said — that Romney might not be that big a contrast to Obama.
GIven that this isn’t a policy issue, or something where if you follow his words you’ll do the wrong thing (it was meant to stop people from voting for Romney, and that is the RIGHT thing), I don’t see what the point is of making a big deal out of the statement. He’s already pointed out that he won’t vote for Obama over Romney. As others have noted, he endorsed Romney in 2008 against Huckabee and McCain, so does it make sense he would vote for Obama over Romney now?
Still waiting to hear the difference
Magic underwear?
“The Communists own Stalin.
Did that help the anti-Communist Russians, in any way?”
Yes it did - eventually.
I do not trust Romney to be a true Conservative.
However, I do not believe that Romney is coldblooded tyrant.
It’s a moot point really, because Romney can’t beat Obama.
But if you don't want Romney, what choice is there?
Poll Date Sample MoE Romney Santorum Gingrich Paul Spread RCP Average 3/7 - 3/21 Romney : 36.3 Santorum: 28.7 : - 7.6% Gingrich: 15.6 : -20.7% Paul : 10.9 : -25.4%Santorum is closer to Romney than Gingrich is to Santorum. At least you can still beat Romney by adding Santorum and Gingrich together, although it is bothersome that they don't add up to 50%.
I do think Rick has gotten somewhat desperate lately, launching the Bain attack, this comment, bringing up the dog incident -- just like Gingrich got desparate in Florida.
Who knows how this would have played out if one or the other of them had been able to stay on-message?
I can recall 10 different major gaffes from Santorum in the last month alone. Since he suddenly became a front runner in the last 2 months, it is quite obvious that he seriously lacks the ability to be a great leader. His entire candidacy is a complete joke, and his followers keep on having to explain what he “really meant”, or what he was “actually saying”.
Santotum is in WAY over his head, as are his ignorant supporters. And this is why we are losing. All blame belongs to the source, (Santorum himself) not the press, or the Newt supporters.
Hey Morrisey! Bite me!
Who listens to you anyways?
Santorum is absolutely correct.
Romney in the WH will solidify the GOP-E.
Obama in the WH means we take the Senate and add to the House and importantly we destroy the ‘E’ in GOP-E and replace it with ‘TP’ to achieve GOP-TP.
It is more important to clean out our betrayers, our Benedict Arnolds, our democrat infiltrators FIRST and then move against the demonrats. And not to worry about Obullsh*t, he will be neutered with GOP-TP control of Congress.
