Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. West’s statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):

First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

Who started the fight? This is the last crumb the “hes guilty” crowd have left if they have read and studied all the available facts.
If you doubt that Zimmerman acted only in self defense please tell us exactly how to prove it, what is missing piece of the puzzle - if you know share it with us dummies who just have an acquired distrust of most of what we hear from the MSM, and their lackey the professional race-baiters.

Wouldn't things like GSR and blood spatter normally be used to determine who fired the weapon, and the range? Because it is not disputed by anybody that Zimmerman shot Martin, and there are multiple witnesses who saw Martin on top of Zimmerman immediately before hearing the shot.
I'm truly curious what those tests would be expected to show. And I would like to know where you read this, because I haven't seen anything about the medical examiner's report or any kind of lab work.
If racism is involved then Zimmermans opponents need nothing else to make their demands.
Because all other avenues of evidence and fact finding are exhausted I dont see why some people are siding with the MSM/race-baiters unless they are just thick-headed or they also believe it was a racially motivated hate-crime.
Because the race card is all thats left to play here. There is no smoking gun.

Zimmerman said he was attacked by Martin while he was returning to his SUV. Obviously, you don't believe him. Do you have any proof to the contrary. Isn't it up to the state to prove that Zimmerman is lying? How does Zimmerman prove that Martin attacked him?

That the police and the DA have refused to file charges indicates that they are aware of exculpatory evidence we aren’t privy to or that there is insufficient evidence to attempt a trial.
The immense amount of public and media pressure being exerted against the police dept. and DA’s office would more than likely have resulted in them doing something by now. That they’ve weathered this storm says a lot. I commend them for being resolute in the face of what they’re enduring.

That's the key, isn't it? It may very well be that Zimmerman committed a crime - but I have seen no evidence that could prove it. There is only one known witness who can testify to who started the fight, and that is Zimmerman.
You don't even have to believe Zimmerman is innocent to believe that he should not be prosecuted...

If Zimmerman shot Martin while Martin was on top pounding him, then you would expect GSR on Martin and Martin's blood on Zimmerman. If they are not present, it would call Zimmerman's account in question.
Yes, I understand that. But it isn't Zimmerman's account that we're questioning here - as far as I know, Zimmerman's statement has not been released. What we do have is several eyewitness accounts of Martin on top of Zimmerman immediately before the gunshot. We also have an audio recording of somebody (at least one witness says Zimmerman) yelling for help right up until the shot.
I'm not saying they should not do the tests - I'm just not sure how useful the results will be, because we already know they were fighting before the shot. We don't know who started the fight, and I don't think those tests will tell us that.
I am also not convinced these tests have not been performed. The police report that they still have Zimmerman's clothes from that night, and his gun. I've seen no reports that his or Martin's clothes have not been tested.

We do know he was head back to his truck because he said so to the 911 dispatcher.

So, when the Police Report is leaked that shows all of the 6 witnesses confirming Zimmerman’s version of events (which they do) you’re going to apologize and admit that Zimmerman is innocent....correct?
